I moved to my stomach and stuffed my head under my pillow as a phone began blaring out on the other side of the bed. There was a huff from next to me and then a shuffling.
"Hello?" Danny's sleepy morning voice grumbled. He let out a long sigh as the other person talked to him.
"Thank you, mom," Danny mumbled. "I-I..." He cut himself off with a loud yawn. "I really appreciate it. Yes, we're still in bed... it's okay.... I love you, too.... I will... bye. Love you."
He let out another long sigh before putting his phone down on the night side table. There was the sound of shuffling next to me before an arm was wrapped around my waist, pulling me toward his warmth.
His hand rested on my stomach and I put my hand on top of his. "Mmm," I groaned. "You're so warm."
"Thank you. You're pretty warm too," he mumbled into my hair. "And you smell good. I love you."
"Not as good as you smell," I shot back as I attempted to lean further back into him. "I love you, too. Where's Clay?"
"He got up about 15 minutes ago and made his way to the living room," Danny replied. He placed a kiss on my neck.
I giggled as his stubble brushed against my skin. My eyes opened when I realized what the day was and why his mom called. I pulled away from his touch and turned around to look at him.
I met my favorite pair of brown eyes. "Happy birthday," I said with the biggest smile on my face. I cupped his stubbly cheeks in my hands and dipped down at press my lips against his. "I love you."
His hands found my hair and threaded their way through. "Thank you," he whispered as I pulled back. "I love you, too. This is the best way to start my birthday. Right next to you."
I smiled as I continued to look down into those beautiful eyes. "Is there anything you'd like to do today? Penny was nice enough to give me the day off, so we can do anything," I told him.
He smiled. "Remind me to thank her," he replied. "I think you me and Clay should have a day together. I can make lunch and dinner... we can go to the dog park."
I nodded. "We can do that," I said. "But I'm not letting you cook all the meals. How about I make dinner? Do you want a cake? I know it's against your diet, but coach doesn't have to know."
He shook his head. "I think you'll be enough for dessert," he said with a smirk as his hands began to move down, gripping at my hips.
I rested my forehead against his as I bit my lip and shook my head. "I wish we could. But it's shark week," I told him. I pulled away and looked down into those eyes.
This big brown eyes were full of disappointment. "That's no fun," he whined. "That's okay. I'll save my credit for later."
I rolled my eyes and smiled down at him. "You're lucky I love you," I mumbled as I dipped back down and pressed my lips to his.
"Mhm, I am," he whispered. "Indeed I am. You're the best gift I could ask for."
"Am I? I thought that would be Cl-," I was cut off by the big fluff ball running into the room and jumping up on the bed. I was pushed off Danny as the fluff ball budded his way in.
"Clay!" I laughed out as I fell on my back.
"Good morning, buddy!" Danny said as he wrapped his arms around the chocolate figure that was licking his face.
"Man," I mumbled as I crossed my arms. "That's not fair. You always get the Clay cuddles!"
Danny chuckled and looked over to me with a big smile on his face. "It was only the matter of time."
