I flipped over so I was lying on my stomach. I'd been tossing and turning all night because of the amount of alcohol I'd drunk at dinner. Whenever I drank too much, I'd fall asleep right away, but then be awake for the rest of the night.
I let out a sigh as Danny snored up a storm next to me. Of course, he could sleep like a baby. After about ten minutes of listening to his snores, I slid out of bed and pulled on a pair of shorts. When I stood, I looked back at him and rolled my eyes.
His mouth was wide open, drool freely flowing, and obnoxious snores were still leaving his mouth.
I shuffled down the steps and to the kitchen where I began to brew a cup of coffee for myself. It was only 5 am, but that meant it was 11 am back home. At this point I'd normally have already gotten in a nice walk with the pups and be at work.
The weather seemed perfect, so once my cup was done brewing, I sat down outside on the patio and enjoyed the calming sound of the ocean. I was kind of sad that we weren't facing the sunrise. That was my favorite thing the first time we stayed in Hawaii.
As the sun began to rise, the ocean in the distance became visible, but it was covered in dark nasty looking clouds. I couldn't help but hope that they were either moving away, or would dry up before they got to Maui.
I let out a sigh. The view was amazing, and for the first time in a long, long time, I felt relaxed. This was just what I needed— to sit down, enjoy some quietness with my coffee and not have any interrupti-
"Good morning babe," Danny's voice said from behind me as the doors latched shut.
I let out a sigh as I turned back to watch him move toward the chair next to me. He was in just his shorts and had a cup of coffee in his hand.
"Morning," I mumbled. "You slept well, I take it." I looked back out to the ocean, which seemed to be getting darker and darker by the minute.
He sat down and brought the cup up to his lips. "I did. I slept like a baby," he replied. "It's been so nice to actually relax. And I look forward to our hike later. No cell reception to know about free agency. Just you and me."
I sighed and looked over to him. "I need it. I need to forget about everything for a while," I mumbled. "What would you think if I made a quick trip home between spring semester and my summer classes?"
Danny's eyebrows shot up and he looked at me like a deer in headlights. "Is... If that's what you want."
I nodded. "Yeah. I wanna go spend some time with my parents, ya know? We didn't have much time to enjoy each other at Christmas."
When he finally nodded, he pulled his eyes from mine and looked back out toward the water. "I get it. Enjoy them while you can. I still wish my parents were in the same place."
There were a few minutes of silence as we sat there watching the ocean, and unfortunately the storm clouds moving closer to us.
"When's this storm gonna hit?" I finally asked as we saw a bolt of lightning hit the water out in the distance.
Danny pulled his phone from his pocket. After a few seconds, he let out a sigh. "The plans may be delayed by an hour or two. It's gonna come in around eight and slowly move out around ten. So we could go after lunch rather than after breakfast," he informed. "Does that sound okay?" He looked up to meet my eyes again.
Those brown eyes of his were so soft and caring. I could've melted. "Yeah," I mumbled. "That worlds just fine. I guess we won't have a picnic then."
