Chapter 48

Hi all, I hope you had a merry Christmas and happy new year. Life has been busy for me and now I'm dealing with a family situation. Despite being on winter break I don't know how much time I'll have to write this next week.
I thought I should update... even though this is completely unedited. Thanks for understanding.

"Is Daddy ever gonna get home?" I asked Clay as I began playing with his ears. The two of us were relaxing on the couch together as we waited for Danny to get back from practice. It was seeming that he was taking forever and I was beginning to get really anxious.

Clay looked up at me as he tilted his head. He seemed content to have a relaxing day in with me. We both clearly needed it. "Ugh. Daddy needs to hurry up! I wanna go pick out your little brother!"

Clay let out a small whine in response. He was excellent with Sasha so I had no doubt that he was going to do well with a new puppy around. In fact, I knew he would take on the role of big brother and teach the new puppy how to be just as sassy as him.

The front door came bursting open, and Danny came rushing through the door. "Jesus! I'm sorry It took so long! There was an accident. People don't know how to drive," Danny complained. He dropped his duffle bag to the floor and made his way toward the bedroom. "I gotta change and then I'll be ready!"

Clay perked up and hopped off the couch so he could follow Danny down the hall. "Wow," I called out. "Maybe we're getting another dog so I can have a dog who actually likes me!" I called dramatically.

In a matter of seconds, Danny was making his way back into the room as he pulled on a shirt, with Clay hot on his feet. "Oh babe! It's not like that! Clay loves you!"

I playfully scoffed as I looked at the two idiots. There he stood with Clay at his feet, also looking at me. "God... Only you two," I complained as I looked away and pulled my coat off the hook. "You always try to guilt trip me!"

Danny's strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind me, and he placed his chin on my shoulder. "I love you. I'm excited to pick out the puppy... Well to have you pick out the puppy. It's nice to know that I'll have another furry friend."

"I'm ready whenever you're ready. I can't wait to meet Kyler," I told Danny. I pulled away a bit and turned so I was facing him. I brought my hands up and cupped his stubbly cheeks. "I cannot wait. This is going to be so great. Eight little fluff balls and their mama. I won't be able to contain the cuteness." 

Danny had a small smirk on his face. "I think it'll be great. I can't wait to see all the little pups and hear those cute little barks," Danny responded. He pressed his lips to mine and shook his head. "I think this will be the best gift I will ever give in my entire life."

"Well, it sure is the best gift I've ever received. Well... Other than you. You're a pretty good gift," I replied.

"That's good to hear because.... Did I mention that I need to drop off some food at Jules' for Pen before we go?"

That man and making food for Pen. He probably used his new knives too.

"Is this it," I asked Danny as be began to slow down and pull to the side of the road. "Oh my god! This is it!" I unbuckled, ready to jump out of the car as soon as he put it into park.

"Babe! Slow down!" Danny called as I was already halfway up the front lawn. He quickly caught up to me and grabbed ahold of my hand. "I know you're excited, but you need to chill. You don't wanna scare the puppies!"

I let out a soft sigh and let my shoulders drop. "Ugh. You're probably right. I don't wanna scare them. Especially since we are gonna take all of them home in four weeks," I replied.
