5: Something New

It didn't take but 10 minutes to get to the store, since traffic was light. I was really glad that Nick was so easy to talk to, or it would've been super awkward. We talked about our favorite music and what mutual friends we had. He told me a lot about his band mates, well the ones i didn't know. Edwin seems like someone I would get along with pretty well. We pulled into the parking lot and got out of Nicks car. Nick and I walked through about 3 or 4 isles, but couldn't really find it. It was honestly kind of hard to find, for some reason.

"ight i gotta challenge for you" Nick said to me with a grin.
"and what is that?"
"whoever finds it first wins, loser pays for it." He says.

This seemed like quite a deal since I figured I would be paying for it in the first place.

"You'd really pay for it?" I ask him.
"Well i'm gonna find it before you so don't get ahead of yourself, girl." Nick said smiling.
I laugh and say "you're on", he counts down from 3 and we both go opposite ways. I start rushing from isle numbers and on. I'm not familiar with this store, so I had to read the signs. I pass Nick a few times and he's doing the same as me, looking at every single product on the shelves.

I finally get to an isle that looks right. I scan each item and read the labels. I reach a bottle that says exactly what we're looking for. I grab it quickly and find Nick an isle over.

I notice he is still scanning the wall, so i walk up to him with it behind my back. He finally turns and looks at me as a grin at him. I swing the bottle around to where he can see it and start laughing.

"What the hell, how haha where was it?" He asks me
"Right around the corner, sucks to be you rn"
"Well looks like i'm paying" he laughs.

I felt kinda bad, I mean the guy is helping me with my car for free then he doesn't even pay for the product? Idk. I wanna be on his good side.

"no no it's cool i'll pay for it still" I tell him.
"naw, you won, y/n, it's only fair" he laughs.

We walked to self checkout right after. We then got to the scanner and the payment showed up. Nick actually took awhile to get out his wallet, so i quickly swiped my card without him noticing at first.

"ay ay what the- whatchu doin" he says surprised.
"you're the one helping me for free, Nick, I gotta pay" I laugh and tell him. "Plus you take like hours taking out your wallet."
He lightly pushed me after and jokingly told me to shut up.

When we left the building, we were almost to his car when he came over to the passenger side door and opened it for me. I thanked him and got in, which him doing this made me feel butterflies. He got in on the drivers side. I hadn't stopped thinking about last night. It was bothering me all day. I had to say something about it.

"Hey by the way, i'm so sorry about that guy last night, he was way outta line" i tell Nick.
"oh, no don't worry. You'd be surprised how many fights i get in when i'm drunk, i'm not myself." he laughs.
"So everything's cool?"
"yeah for sure don't worry about it, y/n...but who was that guy anyway?" he asked me, confused
"uh, well he's my ex. totally toxic relationship and all that shit" i tell him
"yeah i could see that" he tells me. I look at him a little confused. "no no i didn't mean that in a rude way I just meant like he came in and-" he says frantically before I stop him.
"i get what you meant, everyone's told me to break up with him for like 2 months, i finally listened, thankfully."
"we're y'all dating when he came to the party?" Nick asked me.
"uh yep. broke up last night. He obviously saw me having fun and i mean god forbid that happening" i say laughing.
"yeah i mean i was having fun, too" he says sort of quiet.

I looked at him for a second and he looked back, but it couldn't be long, cause well he was driving haha. We laughed and then listened to music on the way back to my house. I was really relieved after talking to him about that. I'm glad he understood. I'm also glad he was had as much fun as i was last night.

We pull into my driveway and he instantly pops the front of my car again. I watched as he used the oil we just bought in my car. He flipped his red hat backwards, getting his hair off his forehead. A hot Italian working on a car, i mean it was fine af.

"ight you wanna go try and start it?" He asked me.
"yeah" i say, as I walk to the driver side door and sit in the seat. I turn the key and the car starts up faster than I've ever heard it. I see Nick give me a thumbs up and I turn back off the car, getting out of it again.

"Oh my god thank you so much!" I say to him.
"hey no problem, y/n" he tells me. "You wanna go get food or something? I'm like starving." He laughs as he asks me.
"yeah! lemme just-" I look at my phone and notice it's 2:45. I had class in 15 minutes and the drive was 20 minutes. "oh shit i'm sorry I gotta go to class. i'm gonna be late."

I missed my class earlier, so i promised myself i would make it to the later ones.

"thank you again, Nick!" I say as I give him a quick hug and walk to my car again.
"anytime, i had fun" he says as he goes to his car, too.

this was definitely the best day i've had in awhile.
