"It seems to run in the family." I picked my eyes down from the ceiling they were glued to and looked down at the elvish king as he entered the room.
"What seem too?" I asked, slightly impolitely but I don't think anyone really cared currently.
"That mages from you bloodline show up half dead on my porch and then get attacked inside my maze, a worryingly common occurrence for the security of my people."
"Seems so." I was laying on my back and my left arm was numbed by wild magic as Kela did her stuff to help. "Worrying indeed but also the fact that I am targeted like my purple eyed mother, tho for different reasons, also adds to the worry."
"It indeed does, do you know why you'd be the target?"
"Well what I experienced is that these people and others all say the same thing, that I am so much more. I don't know what but I have something to me and me alone that everyone notices."
"And we don't know what it is."
"We don't." I wasn't yet about to tell them about the realms and spirits as I wasn't yet sure I hadn't dreamt it all up. "But could I know why you elves have a room built in a way to almost incapacitate an elemental's abilities to use magic?"
"That room is a relic of old times, sealed away, from a time when elementals were new and greatly feared by all, even the humans, it was meant as a fail save if something were to happen if one turned their back to justice."
"Happy to know someone did find a way i-- Hey!" I glared softly as Kela swatted me on the forehead.
"Language, you are talking to a king."
I almost rolled my eyes, that one word being said to me so many times.
"Kelarian dear it is alright, she did nothing wrong, I got what I came here for mage Lin, I'll see you are supper."
He exited and I looked at her.
"How in the life of all that is holy did you do that?" Her voice was snappy and it shocked me, she was so calm a moment ago. "Every since inch of your arm is shattered, you don't have bones you have gravel in your arm and don't get me started on you flesh, an overgrown squash that got smashed against the ground." She ranted, rubbing her forehead as if she was getting a headache just from mentioning it.
"You should have seen my first attempt at this, almost didn't make it." I said before getting swatted at again.
"And above all this was intentional?!"
"Calm down Kela, damn, yes it was but you know how that metal room is, I had no choice and knew the consequences, why do you think all my scars are nonlinear and all over my body but mostly limbs? They are all results of my first botched attempt at this."
She sighed heavily.
"You should deem yourself extremely lucky than that I am trained in advanced healing magic."
"Fuck yes I am, I already have aching ribs, I don't need a useless arm."
"Language."
"I know Kela!" I rolled my head.
"That's not my name."
"I know that too but ssh."
"You are a weird human." I smiled, for once a bit self conscious about it as people liked to point out it was a slightly crooked smile.
It was silent again and I was getting bored.
"Hey Kela?"
"Yes?" She never looked away from her work.
"Why did the king you call dear? You close to him or something?"
"In a way."
"In what way." This was the first time she met my eyes before looking back at what she was doing.
"If you must know, did you wonder why the elvish queen is never around?"
"No not really but now that you mention it..."
"An illness befell her many life times ago after the birth of the prince, an illness that no one knows anything about still to this day, I was the best in our king's army at the time so I was chosen as his son's guard while a stand in mother was called until he'd be old enough, the fact I was good in the healing side of wild magic only made it better and nowadays my job has not changed much but I have more liberties as the prince has grown and I mostly help maintaining the queen's body as we research a cure."
"Could I see her?"
"Why?" I shrugged, I just wanted to. "You'll need to ask the king."
"Neat.....Hey Kela?"
"What now? You are never satisfied are you?" I turned my eyes away and scratched my cheek with my finger.
"I am a curious lady."
"I can tell.... Ask away."
"Will you train me?"
"Huh?" She seem much more surprised then she should be, she even answered with a 'huh'.
"Yeah, you are the best so you can help me? Come on, I got a bit of time before my family shows up and you gotta have some cool tricks."
"I don't know..."
"Come on, I am good student, all ears."
"You won't stop pestering me about it until I say yes will you?"
"Nope!"
"Then fine, but let me whip you back in shape first."
I grinned at the ceiling, humming happily, my stay here is getting more and more interesting by the moment.
