A twirl here, a lift there and a dip over there.
Dancing around to the music while having fun and trying to keep my cup filled without it being spilled over.
Ot sometimes was amusing to know how much dancing was ingrained in Solor's traditions, even peasants knew the basics and had big festivities where you danced all night at a wedding while wine and ale flowed from barrel while us in court more of less used dance to size up someone, if there had tact, if they were gentle or tense and all that but when we had visited other countries dancing was an act reserved for special occasions like a ball where royalty met with nothing of this secret evaluation.
The legend behind this was a funny one, it was because human warred between themselves but would get together to dance at balls to try forge alliances and slowly this worked itself in traditions.
I dumped my drink on a table after I was done with it.
"So any chance with the misses?" I asked Fin as he grabbed me out of a spin to be my next partner.
"Not much, I get it now why most of our family fell for someone between the castle walls, they are less intimidated by us and our titles." I hand my hand rest on his shoulder as his was around my waist, my left hand holding his right.
"Why yes it is a hard life isn't it? To have a title."
"Don't you say?"
"Spin me to Fen."
When the song was over he did as told, I just let it happen, moving my feet to not lose momentum until my lower back came in contact with a hand and my arm was grabbed to not fall over in the dip before yanked up straight.
"So you, any luck with the misses or misters? Your brother doesn't seem to be getting on too well."
"Fin is a bit awkward but he'll get it."
"Ooh do tell me which has your charming eyes caught interest in?"
"The second table from the back and the third from the right."
With a spin I glanced at the blond maiden sitting at the given table, robes green and blue, eyes of a sky blue.
"Good choice." I said when he stopped my spin to face him. "Tho hurry as she won't remain there long, the night is early and there is many men and women tonight, I wonder why."
"I heard old Greg married so half of them are here to celebrate that occasion."
"It is his third marriage, he should realize there is something amiss."
"I don't think he will but what about the one you spotted?"
"She is no fan of dancing."
"Really now?"
"Yeah, she hasn't left the table since we came."
"Let me at it then."
"Be my guest."
I ended up in the arms of a young lady which I took the lead off while waiting for the songs end to switch out, I wasn't that talkative when dancing outside of with my family or when I tried to size someone up, seeing if they can talk through it and give correct answers and not mess up.
After a few more round I grinned at my partner.
"I get that Fen was persuasive?" I asked.
"Shut it Lin, I know to dance but elves don't do this type of it."
"Then what type Kela?"
"Did you know you can channel energy through magic, some ancient magic can be called forth by just concentrating on that magical energy with the right moves."
"I know that, even simple spins can do a lot, mather loves her spins in fights tho her upper back is too stiff to excel at dancing."
"Yes but these spells work with while magic as your dance movements shape it around you but it isn't really powerful, these spells are used to built our living homes in the trees."
"Interesting." I almost tripped as she pulled me. "Hey that's not regulation."
"Regulation." She laughed at the word. "You Solor inhabitants do love dancing but always in proper form, you never mix and match the steps, it is always one, two and three never four, one and ten, that's another change between us people, give us five moves and we can improvise new for hours while you'll be less inclined to mess up the given order."
"Quite interesting."
"Isn't it?"
"It is easier to stick to the given steps, no one collides and we can switch partners easily."
"True but what happens if you don't want to switch?"
"You move towards the middle of the round, the outside are for those that mix around the middle switches less."
"Can we talk of something else?"
"Aw come on what do you have against fun?" I yanked her in a spin making her fall against me as I wrapped my arm around her so she fell in an improvised dip before spinning her up to her feet and wrapping her hand before she got too far. "Too much for you?" I pulled her back.
"For gods sake Lin, I prefer calmness to relax not music blaring with people."
"Like my mather, you two could be the best of friends if you spent time together."
"I will not doubt that."
"Do you really want to leave tho?"
"Unless you want to leave too? No."
"How nice of yo--regulation!" I said, almost falling on someone as she switched up the order, she laughed at my dismay.
"Told you, you have forms while we elves are free moving."
"Well stick to the forms I don't want to be the embarrassment."
"Don't worry I won't let you be alone in it."
"How charming." I rolled my eyes. "But you aren't the only one to play tricky." I grinned.
"Oh show me your tricks mighty trickster."
I pulled her a bit too far to make her step longer then if should be, wrapping a around around her waist and on grabbing around her leg and lifting her, spinning on myself.
"Put me down!" but I just laughed at her, setting her down after a few seconds.
"Don't test me."
"Gods help me."
"Come on lets go, my arms are tiring."
"Finally." I rolled my eyes at her with a smile.
