"What was my name? I told my mage mather I was Lin but was it what you named me?" I asked him.
"It was Linniel and Lin was a nickname but I am happy that the chosen name hasn't been completely forgotten." I smiled a bit, Linniel huh? Not bad. "So how does the story go? I know that I am some weird spirit human hybrid now and know why I saw that spirit woman in my sort of dreams but it doesn't explain why everything that has been happening to me is happening now."
"Patience Lin, all will be explained."
I now saw my younger self, I could tell it was me, ice blue hair on my little head I had before my mather mixed our blood, she was... Or I was around three four years old and playing with people in the village on the shore of the temple's lake, my real father near.
"That day was the worst day of my life." I frowned when I saw the familiar cultists march into town.
"They heard through the disturbance your birth caused that you were here."
"How?"
"The spirits of this side all felt Yuki's life vanish and as we know spirits live by their own moral code. The spirit of decay and death, Gensui, sided with this insane cult as it fell in line with his own beliefs that the world must come to an end to star anew. He felt her death and what resulted in you living so he told them."
"But why is that important?"
"Lin, you are incorporeal and corporeal, physical and immaterial, you could, with training, walk easily through spirit and physical world."
"How easy?"
"You could walk up to a door and when you open it it could lead to the spirit plain, that easily. And they wanted to train you, to take you to open and release this Aurelius onto the world, couldn't let them do that so I made the worlds hardest choice that day."
I swallowed my spit, feeling the weight of his choice as I watched it play out.
Him stepping up with the fighters to face them while another monk picked me up and ran to get me away from here.
"Gensui was hidden somewhere, in their main base, so you needed to get out of his range so he couldn't sense you, lucky that spirit is like mold on the wall so it can't move."
"After you beat them you didn't come after me?" I asked, seeing only one magic spell going off in that fight meaning they trained the cult to fight with magic after I vanished.
"I tried, I did but we found our old friend sent away with you dead on the shore of a river, ten bodies around him and you nowhere, the bead necklace made for you in the river, we first thought you had drowned and it was over, that I had lost the two woman I cared for in my life."
I felt bad for him, he didn't deserve this pain. We were now surrounded by darkness only.
"I turned to spirituality to help me, it grounded me and let me explore many worlds."
"How did you know I lived tho?"
"A feeling deep inside refused to let me believe in your demise, and even tho I didn't know where you were, that you were free and alive."
"A river passes near the capitol, I guess I must have been in something too not get frost bitten until I floated down there."
"With your mage mother's blood in your you can't burn but with Yuki's being you can't freeze so that isn't a need, the cold of winter itself kept you safe like it does now too."
"Yeah with this boost in powers."
"Yes, so it was all good until not long ago the familiar pulse of your magic didn't surface again, Gensui immediately felt it when you stepped into his range leading to the first attack on your life."
"When they said to join the or perish."
"Yes, they worked out spells to utilize your body even if you died to open the gate to the void and let him take your body over and with the merge happening now it was even easier to pinpoint you and then track your position from then on, that's how I also knew you would come here."
"So I am targeted because I am part spirit and could easily learn to open the gates between realms to bring him back and it would be even easier because another merge is happening right now?"
"Yes."
"That would explain this." My own memories took shape around us and I saw the first time I taped into this spiritual power to help the spirit fountain before switching to the scene when my mather was shot down and I just lost it, when I taped into my true mothers spirit powers and brought winter early.
"It would." He said while the memories faded. "Unfortunately they had time to prepare and build power so on the equinox, the day of the eclipse, the day where the realms merge fully for a few sun slivers, the twelve strongest of them will be able to open the gates."
"How?"
"Their base sits on ancient magical ground." A map of parchment paper appeared in his hands as he showed me the location. "There will be the point where this realm and the spirit realm truly merge to form one and also where opening the void will be the easiest."
"How do I stop it?"
"You'll need to hold them off until the eclipse is over."
"That won't be easy, right?"
"It will be the hardest fight of your life as you'll be the only one able to close the gates again."
"Oh my dear gods help me."
"Do not underestimate yourself, I know you'll do just fine."
"Right... Everyone I met gave me something, my spirit mother control over winter, my royal mother an advanced education, my mage mother magic training, my family a will to protect, the people a name to live up too..... I cannot lose this fight, it is not an option."
"Spoken like a true warrior."
"When is the eclipse?"
"Two months."
"It will give us ample time to exactly pinpoint them as you indicated quite a large area."
"Right, lets head back to our world shall we?"
"Yeah.... Lets."
When we came back I didn't expect to hear the stone groaning and feel the ground shaking tho.
