"And why the ME in this Lin?" Kela lifted her brow at me, her gentle fingers tracing the bruises left from my dream bite.

"Mystery still refuses to believe the worlds could be colliding so why tell her? She'd find a reason why it was not a lanky dream spirit that did this to me." I sat on her bed as I had barged into her room while she was still getting ready for the day, nothing on top except for the binds to show what I wanted.

"You two need to talk this out, you can't keep ignoring having this problem until you are both screaming at each other again."

"Not now Kela, I will but not.... We can cooperate when needed that's the most important in this situation."

"You'll regret not making up with her one of these days Lin, it is always like this, time runs out, the opportunity leaves and never comes back."

".... Are you okay? Did something happen?" I asked.

"Something all face, it's known elves like me have a long life, for humans almost seem unending, but there is a time everyone gets tired of life, just wanting to rest finally."

"Is that why we see few elves with the traits that signifies old age for you guys?"

"Yes."

"What happened, you seem saddened by what you had said."

"I guess I could share, it long has passed. I was the youngest of my family and weren't with my parents for long before they chose the leave this world so my brother was the one that took care of me. We got in a huge fight the last time we saw each other, I told him I hated him and never wanted to see his face when he came back from war..... He never came back, our roads left each others side and the last thing I told him was how much I despised him."

"Kel--" "Lin, do not keep useless grudges, you never know when they might be the last thing you have to remember saying before something happens, your shoulder will be fine it is just bruises as you thought but I wouldn't poke them constantly as they should hurt more then a simple bruise.... Unless you are into that of course, I don't judge."

"How are you this casual about this subject?" I stood up as I dressed up again, not bothered by the tease this time.

"Told you, it is a time long gone Lin, I came to terms with my mistakes but it took a long time, do not make the same."

"Right.... Thanks for checking it out, see you later?"

"Sure."

I was never a fan of the silver and red elm tree in what was called the dragon's garden, from what I head it was even bigger then the previous one in its place but I knew it was special, around two decades ago, the original was struck down along with the souls of Mystery's true parents trapped in it, the wood having been recycled into rebuilding the capitol Aurelius destroyed with his army.

But I knew it was special.

I sighed a climbed on the root and walked up to the trunk.

I ran my fingers along the roughness of it.

Now that spirits and our worlds are mixing I have a feeling we'll be seeing more of them soon, there are myths about forest spirits or the spirit of wind but what if they were right and now that the realms are colliding that might be proven true.

This tree is made from the strength and magic of the best mage in our world, even I know nothing can compete against her, so I feel the spirits might get drawn to here but I wouldn't know.... Not yet anyway.

I took a deep breath.

"Knights." I called forth the shadow knights that could be anywhere, all the ten of them stepped forth from the shadow, their armor slick and dark as the night. "Find any information available about my real father you can dig up, I want it by tonight." They bowed and were gone by the shadows again, leaving me alone.

"Lin, this is not a good idea." I told myself, not knowing what I was expecting when I would find him and if he was even alive right now, I just needed to know, for peace of mind I guess.

"You know you are not that bad, you don't speak nor snitch on me." I fist bumped the tree bark. "Plus I got to agree with Mystery this is a calm place no one goes too.... Euh bye tree?"

"What are you doing Lin?"

"The fucking tree snitched!" I slapped my hand on my face as I faced Mystery who had her arms crossed.

"Language, what did you think? Plants can't keep secrets and speak freely to me."

"Dully noted."

"Why do you want to find that man? The knights are not for that purpose."

"I just want to know if he is alive and ask why I was dumped of in the streets to fend for myself."

"Lin you have a target on your back you can't let selfish thoughts lead your choices."

"Oh yeah and what about you? You refuse to believe me because you think you are so good that Aurelius will never come back."

"That is not the same Lin, the void is inescapable, nothing can live it."

"Worlds are merging Mystery! The spirit and the physical world, the void is just another one in the merge."

"That is impossible, the laws of nature and magic say no! Stop with this nonsense!"

"You stop with it! You are so blind! To everything going on with you! With me! Or with everyone else!"

"Lin!"

"You can't for once hear me out?!"

"It is nonsense!"

"What is nonsense is the fact I had ever loved you!!" I barked in her face.

I saw her expression fall before she shoved me strongly to the ground as an explosion shook the ground.

I pushed myself on my knees quickly to have her fall in my arms.

I had my eyes wide open, seeing a gasping hole in her side, everything completely torn to shreds on her left side.

Wait...

"That was meant for me." I whispered, staring where I was standing before and from where she shoved me aside. "Mystery?" I asked softly, hands already trembling in fear, the lack of response freeze my blood in my veins as I heard what sounded like the guards alarm being blown.

I didn't care for it as I couldn't move nor look away from the wound.

"Kill the girl!!"

That scream echoed through my ears and mind as I slowly let go of Mystery, laying her body on the ground.

They were after me.

They were trying to kill me.
