Lucky because of the elves, or one specific elf to be precise, I was good once again.
"Where are you going?"
"Why are you following me?"
"I was instructed to look after you with that cult after you."
"And I am leaving to explore the elvish lands."
I heard Kela's hand slap across her face but she didn't stop me, just following me out of the maze begrudgingly.
I wasn't surprised to see the other elvish homes were also made from trees.
I sighed softly, despite the blood I got from Mystery I didn't inherit more than her affinity to fire magic, I couldn't whisper to trees or animals, I couldn't bend wild magic nor could I become a dragon.
And people still expected me to be like her, the perfect sequel to a book that didn't need one.
Blood magic and navigating without sight was also lost for me because she relied on the wild magic aspect of it.
"I just need to figure it out with elemental magic."
"Figure what out?"
"Nothing Kela, nothing." I waved off.
I couldn't bend blood to my will I needed to concentrate on the water in it and since water is everywhere that's why I fucked up every little inch of my arm, flesh and bone also have water in them after all.
The echoes of my own magic is also what I see not the reverberation of a magic pulse through wild magic like she does and refusing to teach me these just puts me behind.
"Show me around." I told her, spinning so I was walking backwards to face her. "You know this place better then I do."
"Then keep up."
----------------------------------------------------
From intricate twisting tree arches to waterfalls, the elvish lands were so in tune with nature, it was beautiful, I could stay here for a long time if given the chance.
"What there?"
"Lin, if you want me to guide you don't run off!" She called after me almost exasperated.
"You have huge training grounds! And outside the castle?!" I watched the grass-less field with a few elves here and there.
"Unlike humans, all of us are taught the art of combat, that be male or female."
"Oh wow." I breathed out, trotting in. "I wanna try your stuff out!"
"There isn't much, target practice, wrestling and such."
"You are all boring."
"Efficient, not boring young lady."
"Don't treat me like you're my mother."
"I could be your grandmother's grandma Lin."
"Doesn't matter."
"What do you wanna do now?" She asked, seeing the glint in my eyes.
"Checking if I am all fine." I hooked a finger under the recurve of my bow and pulled it out before grabbing an arrow.
"Don't over do it, our targets are set further then human bows can shoot."
"Yeah I have eyes, I can see." I said while nocking the arrow. "But this isn't a normal bow either."
From afar the string was thin enough to seem invisible to the naked eye but it was just the string from an old bow Mystery had used, the story behind it being too taut or something and breaking the bow, my bow was the regular size so it wasn't taut on it and the wood of it came from a branch of the elm Mystery seems to love oh so much, having a silvery undertone to it.
The grip was made of red stained leather, the whole bow made to fit my hands so I knew for a fact it wouldn't betray me.... And maybe, it might have some magical properties but I don't know.
I aimed up and didn't need long to center and let the string go, whooshing right past my nose as the arrow flew.
"Hmm a master of their craft is the man or woman that crafted that bow of yours, almost rivaling ours." Kela said. "But impressive bullseye, first for a human."
I smiled proudly.
"Well bows always interested me as I can't say I skipped training with it."
"I can see that... Tho you did skip out on fire."
"I will get better!"
"I'll see it when I see it."
"I'll show you!"
"Sur--" A deafening rumble shook the place and we looked at each other. "Lin no!" But I ran towards the sound, snatching up my fired arrow along the way, hearing Kela follow me with mild cussing.
