I had just managed to catch up on a bit of sleep, comfortable and warm on the couch. That was until a deafening bang of thunder made me jump right out of my skin and almost knock over my lemon water off of the side.

I groan in annoyance at the fact I had just been awoken after my many attempts of getting to sleep. Sometimes it was unfortunate that our house was so huge, as every noise echoed throughout all three floors and bounced off of every last wall in the building. That's probably why the thunder sounded like it was coming from my kitchen rather than a few miles away.

I had been home alone for around half an hour now. My dad had called to say him and Luke wouldn't be back for another couple of hours as he had taken my brother for something to eat to try and settle him, Louis had gone out to put gas in his car and my mom had left the house around two hours ago without a trace of where she was going. I gathered she would be at Capitol with Bradford though. I overheard a conversation she had on the phone last night about immediate work that needed to be done.

The house was fairly silent, and dark for that matter. Outside was only a mixture of different shades of greys today so not much light came in through the windows. The lights would come on automatically if the house got too dark whilst people were inside, so I figured I would just wait for the machine to do it itself.

I used the backs of my hands to rub at my tired eyes, but knowing that getting some sleep definitely wasn't on the cards. My body just wasn't going to allow it, so I flicked over the television channel with the remote I had placed by my side, and comfortably watched the Unagi episode of Friends.

I dropped the remote back down to my side after turning the volume up a few more bars, and at the same time hear the sound of the pouring down rain from outside as the front door opens.

My eyes were currently far too focused on the seventy-two inch television that hung upon the cream wall in front of me to look who had come in, but I gathered by the silence that remained once the person had closed the door behind them, that it was my mom.

I stand myself up from the edge of the couch which I had kept warm for myself all morning, and enter the kitchen to grab whatever junk food I could find. It was one of them days that I just wanted to eat as many calories as I could, drink enough fizzy drinks to give me cavities and not care in the slightest if I put on a couple of pounds.

I empty a packet of chocolate covered popcorn into a plastic bowl, grab a feast size bag of chips and a bottle of Dr.Pepper. This was the only thing to do on a day like this, when the whether is so completely miserable. This must be what people in England spend almost everyday doing.

I go back into the living room, seeing my mom at the door taking off her wet jacket, shoes and scarf. I knew it was her. The fact she didn't speak a word to me when she came through the door gave it away instantly. I was actually surprised when she came and sat down in front of the television. However it was on the single chair that was the furthest away from me she could possibly sit.

"It's something the Japanese call Unagi," Ross says to Phoebe and Rachel.

I chuckle to myself at the television, placing three pieces of popcorn into my mouth.

"Isn't that a kind of Sushi?" Rachel asks with folded arms.

"No, it's a concept," Ross tries to explain, before he's cut off by Phoebe.

"Yeah-yeah, it is. It's fresh water eel." Phoebe states.

There was honestly no programme in the entire world that made me laugh as much as this one. Me and my mom used to spend so much time watching it. That's something we barely ever do anymore. One of many things we barely ever do anymore to be honest. Going on hikes together being one. Watching movies and just small things like grabbing lunch or a coffee. She never really had time for things like that after Lucas was born. I guess, sitting here now thinking about it, our relationship had altered in the recent years. We weren't as close as we used to be.
