"Quick quick quick!" I yell, my feet treading along the beautifully cut green grass as quickly as they could move. I stopped by the huge oak tree to the back of the garden, holding onto it with once hand as I caught my breath.
"Don't stop!" Lucas screamed into my ear through fits of giggles.
Me, my little brother and Louis had been messing around in the back garden for around an hour now. He was currently sat in one of my arms, his arm around the back of my neck. We'd been running away and hiding from Louis for the past twenty minutes. This was what our game of hide and seek had lead to. As much fun as it was, I'd also like to mention that it was around one hundred degrees outside in Los Angeles today.
"We'll hide behind the tree, okay?" I whisper, allowing Lucas to slide down me until his feet were firmly onto the grass.
He chuckled to himself, flicking the blonde curls on his head away from his eyes. "Okay."
I sit myself down behind the tree, shielding myself away from the sun. I think this bit of space behind the tree must be the only place in the whole garden with any shade. It was nice to not be able to feel the burning from the sun just for a couple of minutes.
"Where's momma?" I ask Luke in a whisper, to which he looks up at me with those incredible green eyes. I realised that I hadn't seen her since this morning.
"Momma?" He repeats as he sits himself down, "she's sleeping."
I frown at his words. Surely he's confused. It's four in the afternoon.
"Sleeping?"
Luke nods his head adamantly, allowing the curls to bounce freely as he does. "Yeah, sleeping."
"It's not night time though Luke. Are you sure?" I ask.
He nods his head once again, "I'm sure."
I allow my back to rest against the hard wood of the tree. Perhaps she's tired? Yeah that's probably why. I mean, we were up at three o clock this morning.
Lucas mimicked me, sitting his back against the tree and looking up at a clear blue sky that hung over LA today. His pale cheeks had turned a rosy red color from all the running around he had been doing today. I'd made sure to coat him in layers of sunscreen before we came out so I knew it wasn't the sun.
"SamSam listen," a wide eyed Lucas whispers, pressing his finger against his lips.
It was at that point that an out of breath Louis came sprinting around the tree, diving straight on top of us both. I could feel my heart beating in my chest, definitely not expecting that to happen.
I lay on the grass on my stomach, hearing the sounds of Lucas laughing on top of me whilst Louis tickled him.
"Got you both!" He shouts in a victorious tone, and I feel the weight of my baby brother being lifted off of me.
It was such an amazing feeling to be able to see my boyfriend and little brother bond as quickly as they had. Luke adored Louis, and I knew it was the same both ways. I guess Lou never really had any siblings growing up, so this was him showing that great big brother side oh him.
"Lou," I say, smiling through my words at the pair of them laughing. "Can you watch Luke whilst I just nip inside?"
"Course." He responds, then turning to look at Luke, "I'm sure we'll find something interesting to do, won't we buddy?"
"Yeah!" Luke cheers, and I laugh.
I get myself up off of the grass, wiping down my blue jeans to make sure nothing was on them. I could feel the heat now beating down on my back. It was honestly like sitting in front of a fire it was that hot today.
I hopped up the step and into the house, absolutely loving the feeling of the aircon hitting me in the face once I was inside. Finally a bit of cool air.
My eyes peered into the living room. No one. Then the kitchen. No one. The house was abnormally quiet. Not a single soul to be seen anywhere. I frowned, only then noticing my dad's car had disappeared from the driveway.
I stepped up the stairs, being careful to be quiet. Luke has said my mom was a sleep, so waking her up would be like asking for a death sentence.
I pushed open the dark wooden door to her room, allowing my head to peer around and see who was inside. Just like Lucas had said, there she was, cuddled up in bed with around four different blankets and only her head sticking out of the top. So peacefully asleep.
I closed the door behind me as I crept in, seeing both of my mother's eyes flicker open. I smile in her direction, pulling back the covers and crawling into the empty space beside her. She didn't say or do anything. She just laid there. In fact, she looked far too tired and drained to be able to do anything. Her eyes just remained locked with mine.
I could tell how paler her face was today. Even more than it was last night. And the way her eyes were bloodshot right the way around her iris.
I carefully lifted up my hand, allowing it to rest gently on the side of her face.
"Are you okay?" I whisper, stroking her cheek with my thumb.
My mom inhales a breath of air; exhaling it back out a couple of seconds later. She forces a smile onto her exhausted face.
"I'm fine," her shaky voice responds.
I tuck a piece of her hair behind her ear, pushing it away and out of her face. "You're definitely not fine. Why don't you go and see a doctor?"
She swallows, "I've got a bug babe. They'll only give me the meds I've already got and then send me back home."
I bring my arm around her, cuddling her into me. I could feel the heat from her forehead burn the side of my cheek. Surely that wasn't good. But as I felt for her hand beneath the sheets, I could feel how freezing cold her skin was. She definitely had a terrible fever too.
"Go back to sleep," I whisper, kissing the top of her head. "I'm right here if you need anything."
"Thank you, baby girl. I'll-" she stops mid sentence, pulling her head away from me and looking up with the most strangest look on her face. "Quick! Move!" She shouts, and I do as I'm told.
She pushes the covers off her with a great amount of force, pulling her body out of the bed. My mom darts into her ensuite bathroom as quickly as she can, dropping to her knees in front of the toilet. Within five seconds, she had emptied what sounded to be the entire contents of her stomach, right into the toilet.
I drop down beside her, pulling her long black hair out of her face and holding it in my grip. I gently rub her back, patting it every now and then whilst she got it all up. "Is this the first time today you've thrown up?" I ask her.
Her head shakes, "no. I was sick first thing this morning. I've been throwing up like this for four days now, but I've only just started feeling this crappy."
As I sat there, still rubbing her back and holding onto her hair, something struck me. I remembered something, actually. It was just after the Prismatic World Tour had finished. My mom had been throwing up continuously for a good few days, lying in bed feeling awful for around a week. I thought she looked so drained because of the tour and everything else, so I didn't really think much of it. About a week later, my parents sat me down once we were home and told me that I was going to have a little brother or sister. Turns out my mom got really bad mourning sickness. Something she had experienced when she was pregnant with me too.
This was exactly like that. If she's been throwing up for days then...
"You're pregnant," I say through a breath.
