Song: Robin Schulz feat. Alida, "In Your Eyes"
I could kill her!!! Once again, my sister managed to mess up my life. Arggh. There are days when I wish I was an only child. But then, I would have had to come out alone, and get over Saifah alone. She was there for me through that and more. I will always be thankful for it. I sighed. She had picked the worst time to interrupt. I had sent him that sappy text before I could chicken out. I wanted him to know that I had missed him. I had wasted enough time being scared in the past. I didn't want to blow this second chance. And this time, I would make sure we have an honest talk!
The sun had set while we were in the bar, and the walk back to Saifah's office building felt intimate. I had gotten so absorbed by my thoughts that I didn't hear the delivery bike barreling down towards me as I crossed the street. Saifah pulled me back in the nick of time and I found myself somewhat awkwardly in his arms, my back against his chest.
"Thanks Sai. That was close." I wanted to stay there, lean back and feel his arms warp around me. I sighed. "You can let me go now."
"Huh yes, sorry."
He just dropped his arms from my shoulders but didn't move, so I reluctantly stepped forward. I turned around. He was watching me with a worried look on his face.
"Are you ok?"
"Yes, thank you. I'm a little shaken but no harm done"
He lifted his hand to my my arm, searching my face.
"Enough to drive home?"
He hadn't changed, still considerate and caring. It was going to be hard to be just friends, but it was better than drifting apart again.
"Yes, I promise."
"Ok, but please send me a message when you get home or I'll worry."
I smiled sarcastically,
"Yes mother!"
He flicked my forehead lightly and chuckled.
"Let's go, smart-ass. Let's get you to you car before you manage to get into another accident."
"Hey!!!"
We started walking again. I wish I had parked farther away because we got to my car way too fast. I put my bag on the back seat and opened the driver door. I looked at him before getting in the car.
"Thank you Sai. It was nice to see you again. I'll talk to you soon."
He reached out to pat my head gently. My heart started thumping so loudly, I thought he might be able to hear it. Thankfully it was dark, and he couldn't see me blush.
"Drive safely, my Zon. Good night."
And with that, he stepped back. He waited for me to slide into the seat and close the door. Then, he waved at me before turning around to walk to his car. My heart was still on overdrive when I drove off. Phew!!! I am not sure I could survive subsequent meetings without a heart attack. I was calmer by the time I got home and as I thought, Zen was waiting for me.
