Everyone had been at their grandmother's house for a long time now. They had just finished eating and were talking having dessert.

The time was 10 o'clock by now so it was pretty late.

Everyone seemed to just be going with the flow and not making anything awkward, if anything it felt sorta good just being a family again.

Elisa finally exchanged a few words amongst the group but only a few. She was filling a little bit more comfortable.

Let's just say she was trying,

"Aw, man. We gotta do this again" Charles finished up his laughing about the commentary coming out of Carter's mouth.

"Yes, I agree" Lucía nodded with a smile.

Although the original purpose for everyone to gather was for her to see the family because of her sickness she was still very happy. She would be starting her chemo in a week so she wasn't sure how it'll go.

Of course, she knew just because you had cancer that didn't mean you were going to die but she was much older. She was an eighty-year-old woman and didn't have much strength to give anymore.

She was content with the life she lived and just wanted to know before she went, whenever that day was she restored her relationship with her kids and their kids.

She loved every single person in this room with all her heart and she needed them to know that. Even her stupid son who was in prison for gun, drugs, and arson charges. He made horrible decisions in his lifetime but he was still her child. She loved him for that but she didn't like him.

"We need to do another trip to the DR. We haven't been there in so long. I miss everyone" Charles other kid, Benjamin said.

"You were only like three when we went" Charles looked to his son with a chuckle.

"Aight maybe I just wanna go," He said as they laughed.

"Yeah, we should" Carina smiled.

"You wanna go to the DR?" Jarvin questioned.

"Yeah I mean" She shrugged.
"It would be nice to you know do stuff again"

"Please do," Lucía spoke up causing them all to look at her knowing where she was going.
"I'm not saying ima die tomorrow but you all know. You're old enough to understand"

"Ma you're not gonna die," Jarvin said rolling his eyes.

At the end of the day, she was his mother and he loved her like he loved his children. She meant everything to him because before she created this hurdle in their mother and son relationship she was his rock. In fact, she still was. She made sure he had the world and worked hard to give it to him when their father passed.

He would never be able to repay her for all she did to make sure he was good. Like dropping everything in her pocket so he could get that master's degree.

"I have cancer mi amor. I don't have the strength that I had when I was you guy's age. Ahora soy Viejo"
(I am old)

"Yeah, but old doesn't mean death ma. I'm begging you to stop" He lifted his hand.

He missed out on twenty years unlike the rest of his siblings so he wouldn't and would never come to terms with her sickness so easily as the rest.

"Come on y'all" Janice voiced in.
"Let's just enjoy each other tonight and talk about this another day, we're here for the week. This is a discussion for the adults"
