to fear and hate"

Carina was excited for the first day back. She had been accepted into her NEWT classes and was more than ready for it.
She had Ancient Runes first thing and it was a drag but she was with Blaise for most of today which she loved. She loved spending time with her brother, especially in lessons because he always helped her. It was something that definitely wasn't allowed but Carina didn't mind either way, she thought it was one of Blaise's way to show he cared.
They headed towards Defence and Carina was excited. She couldn't wait to see what Snape would be like as a defence teacher, he'd been an amazing potions master so she could only imagine what he would be like in a subject he'd always wanted to teach.
"I have not asked you to take out your book," said Snape closing the door "I wish to speak to you and I want your fullest attention,"
Carina pulled a face at Blaise —this is so serious, bring back Lupin, she had thought — Blaise chuckled at her expression and focused back on his Head of House.
"You have had five teachers in this subject so far, I believe,"
Carina couldn't help but smirk at Snape's arrogance, he bloody knew they'd had five teachers, he knew the position was cursed so why was he being such a cocky bastard?
"Naturally, these teachers will all have their own methods and priorities. Given this confusion I am surprised so many of you scraped an OWL in this subject. I shall be even more surprised if all of you manage to keep up with the NEWT work, which will be much more advanced,"
Snape carried on talking about Defence and how the dark Lord previously used Inferi, carina wondered how he knew this, surely being part of the order meant he wouldn't be privy to this information —she'd never ask but she felt like deep down Snape had always been dodgy —he then went on to talk about non-verbal spells.
Carina and Blaise stood up on opposite ends of the room and both grinned at each other. Carina tried to shoot a bat-bogey hex his way but didn't get very far, nothing came out the end of her wand and she just frowned. Blaise was having all sorts of trouble with the spells too, it wasn't long before Carina somehow managed to shoot Blaise with a Jelly-Legs Jinx. She managed to do a little happy dance and Blaise caught her with a bat-bogey hex. She frowned until she heard Professor Snape taunt Weasley.
Carina didn't like it, after the holiday and how nice Weasley had been to her —especially hugging her when he saw her break down at the end of last term —she felt oddly protective over him.
