"Anakin, what's wrong?" I questioned. "Don't worry about it." He moved to the couch, away from the kitchen. Away from me.
When we got done with the briefing, we came back home and Anakin has been avoiding me since.
Then I remembered the look he gave me after I killed Dooku. "It's about Dooku, isn't it?" Anakin kept his eyes down. Walking over to him, I put my hand on his shoulder, "Anakin, talk to me. We can't do this. Don't shut me out."
"You killed a helpless man, y/n. How can you just be okay with that?" His eyes met mine. "He was a dangerous man. Do you not remember what he has done to us? To Minx? To the galaxy?" I pulled my hand away. "He was unarmed! He couldn't have done anything to us."
"You don't know that! Who knows what he's capable of? I'm trying to end this war sooner. Do you want it to keep going while our kid is are growing up? Stars, they might even fight in it!" I argued. Anakin took a deep breath and stood up, "I'm sorry, y/n." He walked over to me and held my arms. "I'm sorry too."
"I'm so tired of this war. Of this deception. I don't want our child to have to live through it." I put my head against his chest. He wrapped his arms around me and placed his head on mine, "I know. I don't either."
"Anakin, I don't want to leave your side. Throughout war or peace, I love you." I sighed. Anakin kissed the top of my head, "I love you too. I will be with you through it all. I promise."
-
Brushing my hair on the balcony, I overlooked the dark and busy city in my loose shirt and pants. I felt Anakin's eyed burn into me. Turning around, I smiled when I saw him leaning against the doorway.
"Anakin, I want us to buy a house soon. Before the baby is born. Away from everyone." I smiled at the thought.
"You are so.. beautiful." He awed. I laughed, "Even when I'm about to pop?" Placing my hands on my stomach, Anakin grinned and came to me. He placed his hands on mine and chuckled, "Even when you're about to pop."
-
"Y/n.." Anakin breathed heavily. He laid on the snowy ground, holding his side. There were faint blaster shots in the background. "Y/n, help me.. please." He begged.
"Anakin! Help me!" I cried out. There was no one around me except medical droids. I could feel my life slipping away. I could feel his disappointment. I could feel his death.
Then there it was. That mechanical breathing I've heard so many times. And another noise. The sound of children crying. The sound of children being alone.
Darting up, I shot my eyes next to me. There was Anakin, laying peacefully and slightly snoring. Standing up, I walked out of the room and out of the balcony for air.
Taking a deep breath and closing my eyes, I couldn't help but be afraid. Afraid of what I just saw. Afraid of what I've been seeing.
"Y/n?" Anakin asked. "Yeah?" I kept my eyes closed. "What did you see?" I felt his soothing presence behind me. A feeling I never want to go away.
"It was you and I." I said. "And?" He questioned. Taking another deep breath, I confessed, "You and I die soon." Anakin's presence changed. "The baby?"
"I don't know." I turned around to face my husband. "I'm sorry, Anakin. I don't have enough answers and frankly what I've been seeing is confusing to me. I can't even describe half of it."
"Don't apologize. We will figure it out." He pulled me to his chest and wrapped his arms around me. "We'll figure it out." He repeated under his breath as if he was reassuring himself.
-
"Master Yoda, I need to speak with you." Bowing to him, he nodded. "What is troubling you?" I sat across from him on the cushioned chair. "The visions have come back. They're worse than before."
"What happened?" He questioned.
"Death."
"Of you or someone you know?"
"Both of us."
"Careful, you must be when sensing the future, y/n. The fear of loss is a path to the dark side."
"What can I do?"
His eyes sharpened on me, "Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose."
-
Before I went to see Master Yoda, Master Shaak Ti informed me that there was a report on the outer rim sieges. I made it just in time for it.
"Things are going very well. We have established many bases in case the Separatists try anything foolish." Shaak Ti announced.
"Saleucami has fallen, leaving us with an advantage over the Separatist forces. Master Vos has moved his troops to Boz Pity and took over the planet." Obi Wan said.
"The Senate will vote more executive power to the Chancellor today. If all goes well, we will have less deliberating and more action." Another Jedi added. When they said that, I saw the Jedi who are on the council look at each other.
"Hopefully the war will end soon now with the death of Count Dooku. May the force be with us." Mace Windu said. "May the force be with us." Everyone else repeated.
Before leaving the room with Anakin, Master Shaak Ti stopped me. "Y/n, do you have a moment?" Without looking back at Anakin, I nodded.
She waited until everyone was gone prior to saying, "Y/n, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but you have to be careful of your friend Palpatine."
I was taken back by those words, "What do you mean?"
"He's requested your presence." She answered. "What for?"
"He wouldn't say."
"He didn't inform the council? That's unusual, isn't it?" I questioned. "All of this is unusual. It's making me feel uneasy."
"I understand Master. Thank you." I bowed to her and left the room, going to the Senate building to meet with my friend.
-
"I hope you trust me, y/n." Palpatine said. "Of course." I replied. "I need your help."
"With what?" I asked. "I'm depending on you to be the eyes, ears, and voice of the Republic. Y/n, I am appointing you to be my personal representative on the Jedi council."
I was shocked to say the least. "Me? A Master? I'm overwhelmed. Thank you, but the council elects its own members. They'll never accept this."
"I think they will. They need you. More than you know."
-
After our talk, I went back to the Jedi Temple to inform the council of what was requested of me.
"Allow this appointment lightly, the council does not. Disturbing is this move by Chancellor Palpatine." Yoda rejected.
"I understand." I spoke. "I'm sorry, but we do not grant you the rank of Master." Master Windu said.
I wanted to lash out at them once he said those words. I wanted to know what I've done to not be given the title of Master. I felt Anakin's eyes burn into me, as he was now on the council but not a Master, watching my embarrassment.
But instead of doing that, I simply said, "I understand. I apologize." Bowing to them, I left the room as they talked about the whereabouts of General Grievous and the droid attack on Kashyyyk.
Cowards.
