I sit in the hallway next to corpse's door. 'Please, just hear me out.' I say. It's silent in the room but I know he's listening. 'I'm not leaving you for good, i just need to do my job. I was in the army before I met you, it's nothing mean towards you. I even had to think twice about going because I didn't want to leave you. Normally I'd say yes, get my bags and leave, because what would I stay for? It already changed because you're here. Just.... please let me in so we can fix this.' I wait for an answer but there's nothing. 'I don't want to leave like this. I don't want to go with the risk of not coming back while we're like this. I just..... I love you.' Now tears leave my eyes. I really do. I never meant to upset him or hurt him.
He doesn't answer.
I sit there crying, until I fall asleep.
A while later I wake up with a blanket over me but still on the floor. I sniffle and stand up, feeling sore from the hard ground. I knock softly, no answer. I slowly open the door to find him asleep, eyes and nose red from crying. I tear up at the sight. I never meant to. I pull the sheets over him and gently stroke his cheek before sitting down next to his bed. The wooden floor hurts my butt. 'I never meant to hurt you. Please tell me what to do.' I whisper before tears leave my eyes again. 'You triggered memories.' I jump at his voice and quickly turn around. 'Sit back down.' he says. I move back in place, not facing him. 'I didn't mean to.' I say. 'I know, but you did.' I bite my lip as I hug myself. Trying to stop the emotions and the shaking. 'I know it's your job and it has nothing to do with me, but you're still leaving.' He says. 'I'll come back!' I say as I turn. He looks away, probably not wanting to look at me. 'My father left. My family left. My old friends left. I just thought you would too.' He says. I turn around completely 'corpse please.' I beg as more tears fall. 'It my job. I'll come back once I'm finished.' I say. 'How will I know?' He asks. 'There's no certainty about you coming back.' He says. I wipe my face dry with my sleeve. 'Being forced to face the realization of you having to leave for your job makes me scared to get close to you.' I stand up wanting to sit on the bed, but he rolls over. 'Please don't-' I stop as I get an idea. I roll him back and lay down on top of him. 'Amelia, get off.' He says. I hug him close to me. 'Just let me stay.' I whisper. He sighs 'just shut up and stay still.' He says. I can live with that.
I fall asleep like that.
After not even an hour I wake up, feeling his fingers tracing my spine. I shiver at the feeling before humming. 'I don't want to see you passed out next to my door again.' He says. 'Then let me in next time.' I say as I lean up so I can look him in the eyes. He rubs my back, ending up at the waistband of my panties. 'Just make sure you come back to me, okay?' He says. I nod while biting my lip, trying not to show too much about being happy about him talking to me again. 'Come here.' He says as he holds my chin and moves my face up. He kisses me. 'I'm sorry I yelled.' He says. I kiss his cheek 'it's okay. You were upset.' I say.
He makes me lay under the sheets with him and pulls me into his side.
'Just come back.'
