'Morning Lieutenant.' I'm breathing heavy after having run up to the main building. 'Where are they?' I ask, not up for niceties. 'The shooting range.' She says. 'Get me a damn Jeep.' I say as I get my phone out of my pocket as it rings. 'We can't ma'am, they're at the garage.' The woman says. I start to jog as I pick up. 'What?' I ask. 'An alarm at a gate went off.' General Iverson says. 'I'm getting a gun and checking on the first call.' I say. 'Be quick, guys in training are making their way now.' He says. I hang up and run faster, feeling my lungs burn as I force myself to get to the shooting range as fast as possible.
-earlier that night-
I groan as I wake up by my phone ringing. It's like I just fell asleep. I move out of corpses arms and reach for my phone, corpse having been awake anyways. 'Who is it?' I ask after answering and putting the phone to my ear. Corpse gets out of bed and makes his way out. 'Good morning Lieutenant Harris. I'm calling on request of general Iverson.' A female says. I rub my forehead as I sit up 'why?' I say as I look at the alarm clock on corpses nightstand 3:56 am and sigh. 'There is a notice of a soldier having been shot at the shooting range. There are no nurses around, so he asked for you and a doctor.' She explains.
I get up and start to pick out my uniform 'alright, I'll be on my way. Is there any knowledge on the severity?' I ask. 'Not that I know.' She answers. 'Okay. I'm heading there.' I say. 'Thank you Lieutenant.' The woman says. I hang up and start to get dressed in the dark, being able to do it with my eyes closed if I had to. 'What are you doing?' Corpse asks. 'They called, someone got shot at the shooting range, they need a nurse.' I say. 'Now? It's.... four in the morning.' He says. 'I know.' I say as I put on my jacket. I walk up to him, kiss his cheek and walk out 'see you when I'm done.' I say. When I reach the stairs I walk back to the bedroom. I make my way to the closet and grab my beret 'forgot.' I say as I show it to show corpse what I'm doing. 'Smart.' I hear he say when I'm in the hallway.
I get into the car and head on my way, speeding a little when I'm on the highway. My phone rings so I pick up. 'Yes?' I say as I put it on speaker and lay it on the dashboard. 'The situation of the soldier who got shot is severe.' The woman I talked to before says. I speed up even more. 'How bad?' I ask. 'They thing a artery got hit.' She says. 'I'll be there, give me a minute.' I say.
I stop at the base with squeaking tires, not even parking it as I get out and head on my way as fast as I can.
-back to now-
I reach the shooting range, panting like crazy as I slam the doors open with my shoulder, not having the energy to open it properly. 'Hello?!' I call out. 'Over here!' I get called back. I see the guy sitting on the ground, bad tourniquet around his upper arm. 'Fucks sake.' I say as I take it off and do it well, making the guy yelp out. 'It's for your own best will. His sleeve is covered in blood. I rip the medical supplies off the wall and open the bag on the ground next te me, throwing everything onto the ground. I take scissors and cut off the last bit of sleeve. I soon see that the wound is a deep scar. I take a cloth and wipe away as much of the blood as I can before parting the cut so see what the damage is. The guy grits his teeth and lets out sharp breaths. The other holds his hand. 'Call a surgeon.' I say. One of the other two gets up. 'Is it bad?' The guy asks. 'Nah, you'll be fine, seen a lot worse.' He scoffs with short breaths, finding my words amusing 'You're a military nurse so it's not reassuring.' He says. 'Not?' I ask to keep him distracted. 'You see people after they blow up don't you?' He asks. 'Meh, sometimes.' I say as I get the stapler out. 'Grit your teeth for me buddy.' I say as quickly after staple the cut together. He barely reacted. 'So what's your name?' I ask as I tightly bind the wound. 'Gale, ma'am.' He says. The guy who called walks in 'they have transportation and the doctor arrived, surgeon is on his way.' He says. 'Good.' I say as I stand up, holding my hand out to the hurt guy. He takes it and I help my to his feet, focusing of his face to see if he doesn't get dizzy. He wobbles in his feet a bit. 'You good?' I ask him. 'Yes.' He answers. 'Alright let's go.' I say. He walks in front of me 'good luck cleaning up fellas.' I say as I follow him out.
I get him in the Jeep, The doctor and surgeon can deal with him together. I help him sit down next to the driver 'tell them your artery is punctured.' I say. He nods. 'Alright, good luck Gale.' I say as I pat his shoulder once. 'Thank you Lieutenant.' He says before I close the door. They drive off and I head on my way to the gate.
A Jeep stops next to me 'need a ride?' The general says. I quickly get in and we head on. 'What happened?' I ask. 'The silent alarm went off. Guys on training reported it thinking it was part of the training, but it wasn't. 'Did they find anything else. 'Car pulling up.' I hear over the radio. 'Well that.' He says.
We check it out, me staying in the car in case I need to follow them.
'They dropped something!' Someone calls. 'Cover!' Another yells. I start the Jeep, turning the headlights on. When I hear tires retreat I pull up. 'Follow the fuckers!' I speed up, quickly catching up. They stay on the road, so I go off road. I drive through the woods, knowing exactly where the road ends up. I stop the Jeep at the narrow part at the road where they can't pass. I see headlights coming up, but I stay in place. They can't go off the road either because there are trees there. 'Better fucking stop.' I say as I grip the steering wheel harder.
Luckily for me they stop. Another Jeep comes up and blocks the way back.
They get caught and brought in.
After all that I head back home.
