The next day I wake up but loud footsteps coming down the wooden steps of the basement. I'm cold and sore on the concrete as the man grabs me and drags me with him.
The other man that spoke to me yesterday paces back and forth impatiently as I get out into the chair. 'You speak to me.' He says as he stops and now pulls a pistol out and points it at me. 'Well that's not a nice good morning. My boyfriend does it way calmer.' I say as I blink my eyes a couple of times. The gun scares me. It does. But I'm in no position to do anything about it. 'Who is commander?' He asks again. 'Dude, I don't fucking know!' I say getting irritated by the question. 'Then where is base?' He asks. I scoff 'you want to walk up to a military base to ask it there?' I ask. 'Where is base?' He asks again. 'I got coordinates.' I say. The man nods 'good. Write.' He says. My heart skips a beat. If they untie me I may stand a chance. One walks up behind me and unties me before handing a pen and a paper. I write some random coordinates down. While they look at it I move my pocket knife to the back of my pants. My hands get tied up before Get brought back to the basement.
When it's dark outside I get the pocket knife out of my pants and open it, trying to cut through the rope that binds my hands together. 'Come on.' I say as I try to cut through. Then it snaps, freeing my hands. Okay, problem one solved. I walk to the stairs in the dark and head up the steps. There's no light coming from underneath the door, so it gives me hope on them being away. Seeing how it's a in bad shape door I start to unscrew the hinges of the door with the screwdriver on my pocket knife. First top, then bottom and then middle. It goes quietly.
This is it.
I open the door that way, and slip out. I don't even look for a door. I break through the first window I see, getting cut by glass but ignoring it as I jump out and run. I hear the men yell in their language, making me run faster. If I get caught now, I'm dead. I run through the woods till I end on a path. I follow it, now occasionally stopping and catching my breath. I can still hear the men yell in the distance. I need to hide. They have flashlights, so if they spot me, there is nowhere to go for me.
I follow a path until I end up at a small bridge. I look down from it. I can jump, and follow the river to the next bridge. I hear the voices come closer. 'Come on Amelia. You're a soldier.' I tell myself as I climb over the railing. Here goes nothing.
I jump and land in the cold river. My body tenses at the change of temperature. Move. I try to move my now stiff limbs. Move Amy! I try my hardest, getting small results. I'm sinking lower as the current takes me with it. Finally I get to move my arms, being a little more used to the cold. I swim, following the flow of water. It takes a long time till I end up at the next bridge. I climb out and make my way to the light I see ahead. My teeth chatter as I fold my arms. It's an old farm. I have to go over there and ask for a phone. I walk up, drenched. I stop at the front door, unsure, but not having a choice. I knock three times. 'Coming!' I hear a woman say. The door opens showing an old woman with gray hair in front of me. 'Oh my- Arnold! Can you come here?' The woman calls out back into the house. 'I'm s-sorry ma'am....' I start as I tear up. A man, around the woman's age walks up. 'This young lady just knocked on the door.' The woman says. 'I-I'm sorry f-for my intrusion, b-but c-could I use your p-phone?' I ask as my teeth keep chattering. The woman nods as she heads inside. The man looks at me 'what happen to you?' He asks as he steps out with me, sitting down on the bench next to the door. 'I-I....' tears well up in my eyes. The woman walks up with the phone and hands it to me. I dial Eve's number, not knowing corpse's.
'Hello?'
'E-Eve... I-it's me.'I close my eyes as the tears stream down my face as I hear my sisters voice.
'Amelia! Oh my god! Corpse told me what happened. Where are you?!'
'I-I don't know.'I look up at the woman who looks down at me with a worried look. 'Where am I?' I ask. 'Waterroad lane.' The woman answers kindly.
'Waterroad lane.'
I hear Eve talk to Micheal.
'Micheal knows where that is. Hang in there, we'll come get you.'
'I-I n-need police.'
'Can you call them?'
'Yes. W-will you c-call-'
'I'll call him. Just hang tight.'
'T-thanks.'The man wraps a towel around me. 'Can I m-make another call?' I ask. The woman nods 'I'll make some tea in the mean time.' The woman says as she heads inside. I dial the number of the police station close by my apartment.
'Hello, how can I help you?'
'Hello. I-I got kidnapped two nights a-ago.'
'Where?'
'Highland street.'
'What's your name miss?'
'A-Amelia Harris.'There's a short silence.
'I have the report here. What's your current location?'
I answer her questions as she sends over some cops. Then I hang up, staring off into the dark night. I'm still shaking as I'm cold. The woman hands me a cup of tea, and I thank her. We wait.
Another tear falls as I sniffle.
I just want to go home.
