78. Unexpected.

I lay in bed after having showered. Both Bimbus and Pebbles are laying on corpse's side of the bed. I let out a sigh and lay on my back while hearing the water in the shower run. After just four minutes it turns off.

Corpse walks in without shirt and lays down on top of me. 'Tired?' I ask. 'Mhm.' He hums. I chuckle as I run my fingers through his wet hair. 'Get under the sheets.' I say as I trace the goosebumps on his arm. He stands up and takes the sheets off of me, before moving to lay half on top of me, his head on my shoulder as his cold and wet hair touches my neck. He hugs my waist. 'Don't squish the cats.' I warn in case he wants to roll over. He hums in response as he has his eyes closed. The cold and the training must have worn him out. 'Warm.' He mumbles before coughing. I pull the sheets over him and rub his back, turning the light off with my other hand. It's new that he's actually able to sleep when I go to sleep too. His steady breathing and calm face make me smile a little. 'Goodnight.' I whisper. He doesn't answer as I close my eyes too.

My eyes snap open and I immediately grab my pocket knife off of the nightstand. Another time. Banging on the front door downstairs. Corpse blinks his eyes open as I try to get out of bed while he's still laying like he did when falling asleep. 'What's wrong?' His insanely low morning voice asks. It's three in the morning. I get up 'someone's at the door.' I say. He sits up too as I walk out of the bedroom, the banging happens again. 'Calm down! I'm coming.' I call out. The banging stops and I turn on a light and walk to the door. I unlock it and open it slightly, holding my foot behind it in case it's someone I don't know.

Selene stands in front of me, red and puffy eyes while tears stain her shirt.

'Selene?' I asks as I open the door further. 'I'm so sorry but I didn't know what to do.' She says. My foggy and confused mind forces me to step aside to let her in. A even more disoriented corpse walks up in just sweatpants. Selene runs up to him and hugs him. He gets caught off guard and stumbles to keep both of them up. He looks at me before looking at who is hugging him. 'Selene?' He asks confused. 'I'm so sorry for intruding.' She says as she clings to her brother. He coughs before hugging her back. 'What happened?' I ask as I close and lock the door. She lets corpse go 'my boyfriend.... he...' corpse takes her to the couch to sit down as I get her a glass of water. 'He cheated and kicked me out.' I hear her say from the kitchen. I walk back out to see her in corpse's arms again. 'I didn't know where to go, I'm sorry.' She says. 'It's okay.' I say as I set the glass down. 'I'm glad you came here.' Corpse tells her. She sniffles and dries her tears with her sleeve. 'Tell me what happened exactly.' Corpse says. She takes a sip of water before explaining as I get a blanket and warm sweater. When I walk back in she's explaining the situation to corpse. 'So I knocked on the bedroom door.... I- I didn't want to see.' She says. He looks at her with a sad expression. I places the fluffy blanket around her before handing corpse the sweater. He puts it on as Selene snuggles into the blanket. 'My- my best friend was..... in bed with him.' She says before crying again. 'He got so mad at me for walking in, he kicked me out.' She says. Corpse wraps his arm around her shoulders. 'I'm sorry you had to go through that.' I say as I take her hand in mine. She sniffles 'we haven't been on the best of terms for a while now.' She says. I rub her back.

We stay downstairs with her and talk with her till I hear my alarm go off in the bedroom upstairs. 'Shit.' I say as I stand up. I'm still extremely tired. Not having slept last night and only having slept around three hours tonight. I turn off the alarm and put on my uniform. I gather my things and make my way down again. 'I'll have to get going.' I say. She looks at the time to see it's 4:47 am. 'So early?' She asks. 'Yeah.' I say with a sigh. I grab my keys from the dresser. Corpse stands up and walks over. 'Feel free to stay as long as you need, Selene.' I say with a smile. 'Thank you.' She says back with a tired smile.

Corpse walks me to the door, opening it for me.
'I'm sorry you had so little sleep.' He says before I kiss his cheek. 'It's okay. I'll be back before dinner.' I say. He nods before couching. 'That cough is getting worse.' I say. 'It's alright. Have a good day at work.' Corpse says before kissing my forehead. I walk out and put on my beret.
