The second we reach B6 I call break and the group stops. 'You're where you wanted to be.' I say as I turn to Eve. 'You know...' she says as she steps closer 'just because you are higher rank then me doesn't mean you're better.' She says softly so only I hear. 'This shit again?' I ask as unamused. 'Lieutenant?' Smithy asks as he walks up, obliviously wanting to break the tension. 'I joined first, remember that.' Eve says 'one fucking month before me, where did that get you.' I say. 'You just wanted to fuck me over.' Eve says, making me scoff.
'Corporal Harris, I think we need to leave and set up camp. Could we have our Lieutenant back?' Eversman asks. Eve looks at his rank to see he is corporal too. 'Have fun walking in her shadow.' Eve says as she turns around.
I sigh at How embarrassing she's being 'grow up Eve.' I say softly before turning to my group. 'The fuck did you say?! Quiet acting like you're superior.' Eve says now snapping completely. 'Corporal.' Smithy says carefully. 'Corporal Harris, you know Lieutenant Harris is higher ranking then you and joined at a younger age then you. She is Your superior in this field.' Jackson says as he steps in front of me, as if to block whatever words are going to come from Eve in return. 'What are you saying soldier?' She asks as she steps closer. 'Quit snapping at my Lieutenant.' He says back as he steps even closer.
Eve gives up, knowing the tall broad man will win the discussion.
I pat Jackson's back 'let's keep going.' He nods firmly and we go on.'What was that all about?' Corpse asks. 'She got mad at me for me getting a little mad at her, then she brought up old things.' I say. 'Why did you get mad at her?' He asks. I look up, meeting his eyes. I look away 'She said some rude things just a little while ago.' I say. He raises his eyebrow. 'You don't want to know.' I say. He frowns and looks away. 'I heard what she said.' He says softly. I look at him again, him not looking back. 'I was walking in front of you guys, ya know.' I place my hand over his arm 'don't tell me if you don't want to.' I say. 'It's not true, you believe me right?' He asks. 'Of course it's not true.' I say.
We arrive at the place and I let Eversman do the word. He doesn't know that the general is planing on ranking him up. Meaning he'll sadly leave my platoon and get his own. He's insanely good at his job and knows how to lead, so I want to prepare him a little more, letting him practice. He explains how to set up the small tents. You sleep under then in pairs, everyone with the person they brought.
We set up camp.
24 small tents gathered around.Corpse helps the guys set up the bigger tents so we can eat under those. I watch as he helps them and laughs at their jokes. He isn't abusive. How could he be. 'Everything okay ma'am?' Smithy asks as he walks up next to me. I smile at him and place my hand on his shoulder. 'I'm alright, smithy. Thank you for helping me out.' I say. He smiles back proudly. 'She's still jealous?' He asks. I hum and nod 'She hates me for joining the military, she always will.' I say. 'Why though?' He asks as he tilts his head a little. 'She wanted to be the only one who did something like this. Sometimes people can only see you as rival, no matter how hard you try not to be that.' I say. 'But you're her sister.' He says. I smile sadly at him 'I know, that's the reason why. I would love it if we could do this happily together.' I say. 'Yeah! Do this kind of training together and stuff.' He says. I look back at corpse as he lifts the tent off of the ground, helping the rest. Making me a little worried about his arms. 'At least he's nice.' Smithy says as he points at corpse. 'There are a lot of hidden dark moments that he's hiding too, smithy. Seems like I don't really know anyone.' I say. 'Ahw, come on ma'am. You know me!' I chuckle and pat his back 'that's only because I read your file.' I say. 'Good enough! I got nothing to hide.' He says as he shrugs. 'Go help your grandfather.' I say. 'Yes ma'am.' He walks off, having me walk over and help with the tent as well. 'Hi.' Corpse says as I start lifting the tent next to him. 'Fancy seeing you here.' I say.
He chuckles 'not that fancy.'
