We get told it would be better to head home and get some rest, so we do.
I pass out when I hit my pillow.
It's not even two hours later when I get a call from the hospital, asking if I could come over. Seeing how corpse just fell asleep, I feel bad for waking him for this. I walk over to his side of the bed and kiss his forehead 'I'll be back.' I whisper. Thinking he's still asleep, I turn to walk away. My hand gets grabbed 'where are you going?' Corpse asks. 'The hospital.' I say. He kisses my hand 'call if you need me.' He says. I nod and head out.
Sitting in the office of the doctor I look out the window. 'Good morning miss Harris.' The doctor says. I stand up and shake his hand before sitting back down. 'There are some things we need to discuss.' The man starts. Now? This early after what just happened. 'He needs to go back into surgery.' He says. I look at him wanting to know why 'we found that some of his organs are dying. A lack of blood, and therefore oxygen is causing this. We need to do something, or this will be fatal.' I nod 'okay, do it.' I say. 'You have to understand that it's dangerous to put him under, in the situation he's in.' I look at him. 'He's awake. Maybe you should talk to him and I'll come and find you after a bit for an answer.' He says. 'Has He given an answer?' I ask. The doctor nod 'yes, he wants to risk it.' He says.
I head to Evan's room and he opens his eyes when I enter.
He smiles weakly as he reaches out for me. Tears fill my eyes and I take his hand in mine. 'Hey Aims.' He says weakly. 'Hi.' I say with a slight chuckle as the first tear leaves my eye. 'I've missed you.' I say as I try my hardest to keep my voice in line. 'Come here.' He says as he pulls me to him for a hug. I hug him carefully and take a deep breath, trying to get control over my feelings again.'I think we should talk.' He says as we let each other go. I sit down next to him, laying my hand on his lower arm. 'I have to do that surgery.' Evan says. 'There's no other choice, cause dying isn't an option.' He says. I hold his arm a little tighter and nod. 'I'm not leaving you without a fight.' He says. 'I'll be here. I will wait for you to get out again.' I say. Evan smiles tiredly and squeezes my hand.
The doctor walks in and we tell him what will happen. Two hours later I'm still next to him in the hospital, they're slowly getting him ready for the surgery that's later today.
Corpse appears in the door opening. 'Hey, good to see you awake.' He says with a soft smile. He holds his hand on his side and he's not standing up completely straight, like he normally does. Somethings off. 'Corpse.' Evan says with a smile. 'You look terrible. How are you feeling?' Corpse asks as he sits at the other side of the bed. 'Oh i'm okay. Are you looking after Amelia for me?' He asks. Corpse quickly looks at me 'Yeah, I'm trying my best.' He answers. 'Good.'
They're doing some tests on Evan so me and corpse stand out in the hallway. 'What's wrong?' I ask. Corpse looks down at me from where he was looking. 'Huh?' I look at his face. Somethings not right 'what's wrong?' I repeat. He stays quiet. I hold his lower arm and he flinches at my touch. Confused by his reaction I let him go. 'Corpse?' He looks away from me and back to where he was looking 'I fight to keep my own shit under control, I fight to trust you and be okay with what happens, all the while my girlfriend doesn't seem to trust me.' His words catch me off guard. What is he talking about?
'What happened to make you say this?' I ask. Something must have happened to bring this up. 'Enough happened.' He says. 'Then where does this come from?' I ask. When he's physically hurt I can see it, but anything inside of him, like thoughts or feelings, is not to be seen by eye. 'You should tell me. What happened while you were away. You don't say anything to me. You only let me watch you fall apart.' Corpse says. Again I reach for his arm, making him turn this time. 'So tell me. Do you trust me or not?' I look at him, surprised by the hurt look on his face. A face of betrayal. What did I do to make him this upset? Corpse scoffs and steps back from me 'taking so long to answer tells me enough.' He says as he turns to walk off but I grab his hand.
He tries to get his hand out my grip, but I hold on 'tell me what I did wrong.' I say. Corpse lets out a low rumbling sound, making me let go quickly. He's mad. 'why would you think I don't trust you?' I ask. 'You're my girlfriend. Yet you don't tell me anything about what happens, never. You didn't the first time, and now again. I never know what happened to you to get you upset whenever you're back from weeks of being away. Geez I don't know Amelia, why would I think that?' I stare at him as he looks away 'it doesn't matter, never mind.' He says as he turns to walk away. When he's nearly out of the hallway I flinch. He's right. 'Corpse!' I say as I run after him. 'Corpse!' I say, now closer.
He turns with a surprised look on his face. I sort of slam into him as I hug him 'don't go.' I say. I pull back a little as my arms are still around his neck. I kiss him. When we break apart, I lay my head against his 'I love you.' I whisper 'can that be enough?' Corpse lifts my chin up and kisses me again, pulling me a little closer.
We stand silently in each other's embrace
Will it be enough?
