I sit and wait at the vet, corpse standing next to me after he insisted he'd drive me here. We stayed awake the rest of last night and I feel bad towards him. We haven't really talked to each other. My mind is a million miles away. 'Amelia Valtris?' I stand up and follow the woman.
Luckily nothings wrong. They give me pain medication for Leo and we head back.
'How about you stay with me till your doors get fixed?' Corpse suggests. 'Oh it's okay. I've been enough trouble.' I say. 'I insist.' He says. I sigh and look back at Leo. 'I have pets. It's too difficult.' I say. 'That's okay. They can come too.' I look at him as he drives. 'It's saver. Just spare me the worry and stay at mine till the door is fixed.' I sigh 'i already told my mom I'd be staying over.' I mumble. 'Oh, okay.' He says back as he looks at the road ahead. 'I'll be looking for a place to live. I don't want to stay there.' I say. He glances at me, eyes slightly red as the sun shines on his face. Nurse side taking over I look at him but before I can ask he starts to talk. 'Really? Where are you going?' He asks. 'No idea.' A silence falls. He rubs his eye before shaking his head a little. 'Are your eyes okay?' I ask. 'I uh... Light sensitivity.' I frown and clench my jaw. 'Is it bad?' I ask softly, knowing the answer will be yes. 'We're nearly there, it's fine.' He says. I let out a deep breath and sit back.
He parks the car in front of my apartment complex and we get out. I look at my watch to see that it's nearly one. 'Suggestion.' I say as he gets Leo out the back. 'Hmm?' He pulls his hood up and walks up to me. 'How about I make us lunch?' I ask. 'That... that'd be nice.' He says. My face heats up a little, realizing it kind of sounded like a date request.
We walk inside and into my apartment. He takes the leash off of Leo before taking off his shoes. I'm in the kitchen when he walks in. 'Anything you'd like?' I ask. He places his hand over his stomach. Something I do when my symptoms are playing up.
'You okay?' I ask.
'Hmm?' He looks up. His red eyes lock with mine and I walk up. I reach for his face and place both hands on the side of his face while looking at his eyes. 'Do they hurt badly?' I ask. 'It's alright.' He says. 'Okay I'll ask again and this time try and answer me honestly. Does it hurt?' I ask. 'Yeah.' He sighs out. 'Alright wait here.' I say as I head to the bathroom.
I take out a box of medication and find the eye drops. I read the back.
Relieves pain and irritation.
I walk back out and put the drops in front of him. 'These may help a little.' I say. He takes the bottle and reads the back. 'Where'd you get this?' He asks. 'Work.' I say. He looks at me confused 'do you want them?' I ask. 'You don't need them?' He asks as he puts the small bottle back down. I shake my head 'please take them, or at least try and see if they help.' I say. 'Okay.' He says as he takes the bottle and takes the cap off. 'Don't squeeze the bottle, one drop will come out.' I say. He nods and holds it to his eye as he keeps his head straight. I chuckle and lower his hand
'let me help.' He gives the eye drops to me and shifts so he faces me. 'Can you tilt your head back a little?' I ask. He moves his head and I put one drop in each eye. 'That's weird.' He says as he blinks multiple times. I chuckle as I hand him the drops and head to the kitchen. I find little around.
'I can make French toast. Or a grilled cheese sandwich....' I say as I keep looking. I find a pot of hot dogs. 'Or hotdogs.' I say as turn to him, seeing him still blink. 'Uhm... I've never had french toast.' He says. 'Never?' I ask as I walk over. 'No.' He says. 'How are your eyes?' They seem to get a little less red. 'It's getting better. Thank you.' He says. I smile at him as I turn to the window that's letting in sunlight. I close the curtains so the bright light is less. Pebbles walks out and meows, making her way to corpse. 'Hey you.' He says with a slightly higher voice. I smile as I start on making lunch.
After a bit he walks up and looks at what I'm doing. 'You don't use foil?' He asks. I look at him, confused by the random question. 'No, what do you mean?' I ask with a laugh. 'Like on your frying pan.' He says as he points at it. 'No?' I say still confused. 'Oh.' He says as he looks at the food. 'It smells nice.' He says. 'It's the cinnamon.' I say as I point at it.
We sit down at the table, both a plate and some water in front of us. I now notice a small problem. He can't eat with his mask on. He may not want me to know how he-
He reaches for the mask and takes it off. Laying it on the table next to him.
I look at him, catching myself staying and quickly looking away. 'How does it taste?' I ask. 'Really good.' He answers as he takes another bite. 'I'm glad.' I say as I take another peek at him. Sadly He catches me and we both look away. My face heats up. I could have never guessed he looks that good. 'Amelia.' I look up, eyes locking with his. Why did he say my name, normally people address me with Amy. 'Yeah?' He swallow the food before he speak 'will you visit me while you're at your parents place?' I look at him. A lot of things going through my mind. It's just my moms place. Besides that I don't really see my dad so "parents" is not really a thing. And why would he want me to come and visit? Visit him? 'Like, visit you?' I ask. His face turns a little red 'if you, uh... if you want to.' He says. My face heats up a little 'Sure, if you want me too.' I say. The rest of the lunch we stay quiet and eat our food.
When done he helps me clean up. When I put the last thing back I turn around, nearly tripping over corpse seeing how he's kneeling down next to pebbles and is scratching her head. 'Oh sorry!' I say. 'My bad, my bad.' I has as he stands up. 'Preference for pebbles Huh?' I ask as I point at Leo. He chuckles 'I like them both, though pebbles is very soft.' He says as he keeps petting her. I smile and kneel down next to both of them. 'Do you have pets?' I ask. 'No.' He says. 'Would you want one?' I ask. 'Maybe. I just don't feel very responsible.' He says. 'What if you keep pebbles, till I can stay at my own place again?' I ask. 'Are you sure, I mean I'm not even good at taking care of myself, I don't know if I should.' He says as he stands up. 'Take some time to think about it, I have to grab a bag real quick.' I say. I walk up to my bedroom door and stop. I trace the holes in the door, before entering the room. I get out a military bag and put in some clothes, books, my laptop and some toiletries.
Outside we stand by our cars. He holds pebbles as she sits in her crate. 'So you got the cat food and litter and stuff?' I ask to check. He puts her down on the passenger seat. 'Yes. Is it okay if I buy her treats?' He asks as he gently closes the door. 'Sure.' I say with a smile. I get Leo into the front seat as well. 'Hey if you ever need anything, please feel free to tell me or ask.' I say. He looks confused. 'I'm a military nurse. I have access to medication like the eye drops. And like, if you want to talk or anything.' I say as I throw the bag onto the backseat. 'Okay, I'll try.' He says. 'Okay.' I say as I close the door, taking the car keys out of my pocket. 'If you need me I'm a text away. Please remember.' He tells me. 'I will.' I say with a nod.
'Well I'll see you in a couple of days then.' He says. We agreed I'd come over to check on pebbles, seeing how he doesn't trust himself. I nod with a smile. He opens his door 'Hey, can I.....' I walk over and spread my arms, showing I want to give him a hug. He chuckles and hugs me. I take in his warmth for a very short time before letting go. 'Thank you for wanting to look after her. I'll see you soon.' I say. 'Anytime. Have a good time at you parents place.' He says, making my face fall a little before I put on a fake smile. 'Thank you. Take care.' I say, 'you too.'
With that he drives off, and I get started on my journey to my mom's.
