There's an awkward silence as we both sit in bed.
'So who is David?' Corpse asks, breaking the silence. I look at my hands as I clench my jaw. 'He's the reason I'm not going on deployments as nurse anymore.' I say. My vague answer makes him sit in silence again. 'He's dead so don't worry.' I say in case he's jealous or thinks anything. 'I didn't mean it like that.' He says back. 'Okay.' I say with a sigh. 'What happened to him?' Corpse asks as I start to play with the hem of my oversized shirt. 'He got stuck in a bombing. They got him out alive but he died at the base.' I say. I reach for my night stand and open the drawer, taking out one of his tags. I hand it over to corpse and he looks at it. 'David Coldwell.' I nod with a heavy heart. After a second he notices the ring attached to it. 'Was he....' he looks up at me as I close my eyes tightly. 'His parents told me later.' I say. 'He was about to propose to you.' He states. I sniffle and wipe the tears. 'Amelia I....' corpse doesn't know what to say as he looks between me and what's in his hands. 'It's a beautiful ring.' Corpse says. I can't help the tears from falling. 'I'm sorry corpse. I still miss him.' I say. 'Hey, no, that's okay. I understand.' He says as he wraps his arm around my shoulder. 'Jesus.' He says as I sniffle again. 'It happened on my birthday too.' I say. 'Your birthday.' Corpse repeats. 'That's why you hated today so much?' He asks. I nod. 'That happened two years ago and the year after my father rid me from his family name. Both on my birthday.' I say. He lets out a huff and holds me a little tighter. 'I'm so sorry.' He says. I wipe my tears 'me too.' I mumble.
'Aims! Can you come here real quick?' I stand up and walk out of the small home office. A weird and nasty smell greets me 'Jesus.' I say as I hold my sleeve under my nose. 'The hell is going on?' I ask as I step into the kitchen. A small fire in the oven and David standing next to it, looking slightly panicked. 'I'm yeah, we have a small problem.' He says. 'Turn the oven off!' I say as I grab a bowl and fill it with water. 'Move.' I say before opening the oven and throwing the water over the on fire food. The fire goes off. 'How in the-' I look at him and see him smile awkwardly. I let out a breathy laugh. 'How did you even manage that?' I ask. 'Well Uhm.... I... I turned it on. And put the thing in.' I look at him as he tries to explain. I sigh and smile. 'You fuck up.' I say as I shake my head. 'No, wait. That's unfair.' He says.
'Oh come here!' I say as I chase him through our house. 'No no. It's mine now.' He says. He ends up cornered in the bedroom 'hand it over Coldwell.' I say as I hold out my hand. 'But I wanna watch Ice Age.' He says as he pouts, holding the remote above his head so I can't reach. 'We're not. Give me the remote.' I say. 'No.' He says as he turns his face away, making me laugh. 'Come onnnnn.' I whine. He looks at me and smiles 'the magic word.' He says. 'Please?' I ask. 'Hmmm.' He says as he pretends to look in thought. 'What.' I say. 'One kiss in order to pass the all mighty remote lord.' He says. I face palm as he chuckles. 'Fine go watch Ice Age.' I say as I turn around and walk out. He grabs me by my waist and lifts me up. 'No no, one kiss.' He says. I struggle in his arms and he holds me off of the floor so I can't walk off. 'Fine! Just put me down.' I say with a laugh. I overdo it, pulling him down and kissing him. While he's distracted I snatch the remote and run off. 'Mine!' I say as I hear him laugh.
'We'll be fine darling.' He says as he puts on his helmet. Marksen waits behind him with the group. 'It just doesn't feel right.' I say. 'It never does.' The chopper starts. 'I have to go, okay. I'll be back. I promise.' He says before kissing my head.
I nervously bite my lip as I watch him get in.
