I lean against the wall, groaning a little as my feet feel like they've been run over by a truck. The nurse walks back over 'follow me.' He says, so I fall in step behind him. He open a door, second last bed on the left.' He says. 'Thanks.' I say as I walk in. I walk over and sit down next to him. 'Amy..' he says as his eyes open a little. 'Hey smitters.' I say. He smiles weakly. 'I'm aliiivvvveeee.' He says, making me chuckle. 'I can see that.' I say. 'Why are you looking so tired, are you okay?' He asks. 'I walked Marksen out of the city.' I say. 'The heavy bastard?' He asks. 'Yes, the heavy one.' I say with a laugh. 'Where is he now?' He asks. 'With The doctors.' I answer. 'Will He be okay?' He asks. My expression saddens as I look away 'let's hope so.' I say. 'Well thank you anyways.' Smithy says. 'What for?' I ask. 'To come to my rescue.' He says. I smile at him, I didn't come just for him but I'm happy anyways. 'We got each other's backs, right?' I ask. 'Sure do ma'am.' He says as he lays his head back down. 'So did you know what happened to you?' I ask. 'They said I was lucky the fragments weren't pulled out. I would have bled to death if that were the case. So I'm alive because of you.' He says. 'I literally didn't do anything.' I say with a chuckle 'no you came to get us. You did everything for us.' He says. I pat his shoulder as I stand up 'get some rest, alright.' I say. 'Mhm.' He says as he closes his eyes.
I walk out and head to the guy's room. I open the door and slowly shuffle my way in. 'Lieutenant.' I get greeted while I throw myself down on the fist bed next to the door. Dolsen sits on it as well. 'You really walked him all the way out, huh.' I nod and close my eyes while laying down. Williams puts a blanket over me. 'Get some rest Lieutenant.' He says. 'Is everyone okay?' I ask. I get some yeses back. 'You Williams?' I ask. 'Ah I'm alright, I got stitched up.' He says. I give him a thumbs up. 'Don't you have your own room, ma'am?' Someone asks. 'I don't want to be alone right now.' I say while having my eyes closed. 'You can take my bunk, I'll take the one above.' Dolsen says as he gets up. I hum in response before I fall asleep.
I wake up by the guys being awake as well. They talk quietly or are doing something for themselves. I roll onto my back, feeling every muscle in my body ache and tingle in pain. I groan. 'Morning Lieutenant.' Dolsen says as his head comes down from the bunk above the one I'm on. 'Oh Mornin.' I say back. 'Sorry about stealing your bed.' I say. 'Ah it's alright.' He says before jumping down.
I try to sit up but fall down. 'Ey help me up.' I say as I hold out my hand for anyone willing to help. Brooks pulls me to my feet in one go. 'Fucking hell.' I say as I flinch at the pain in my feet. 'You alright?' He asks. 'Besides feeling like I e been run over a couple of times, yeah sure.' I answer. 'Ma'am, Sargent Marksen is out of surgery.' I look up before stinky getting on my way. I slam against the door when I reach it. Dolsen grabs my arm 'you may want to see a doctor yourself.' He says. I open the door 'I'm fine,' I say. He hesitates before stepping back.
I stiffly stumble my way to the medical bay. I walk in and a nurse hurries to my side. 'What happened to you?' He asks. 'Nothing, where is Marksen.' I say. He helps me to a room. I sit down next to the bed. 'You lived.' I say with a breath of relief. 'He only woke up once early this morning.' The nurse says. 'What happened?' I ask. 'A lot of tissue damage, some muscle damage, and some of his organs got hit, all minor damage, but all together it was a lot.' He says. I nod as I look at him.
I sit by his side, not feeling like moving, and feeling he'll die if I do. 'Lieutenant Harris....' I turn to the door to see the general step in. 'I've decided to let your unit go home earlier, the wounded will be transferred to the military hospital close to their homes.' He says. 'Thank you.' I say as I let out a breath. The man leaves 'home already.' Marksen mumbles. I look at him in surprise 'I just got here.' He says. I get up and hug him carefully. 'You scared me.' I say. He pats my back. 'Sorry.' He says. I sit back down as if I'm 90 years old. 'Jesus.' He says as he watches me struggle. 'I look like I aged fifty years, what about it.' I say. He chuckles but flinches after. 'Your fault as well You heavy ass.' I say. 'I heard you carried me back to the open where they could pick us up.' He says. 'Word travels fast.' I say. 'Nor did you even manage that?' He asks. 'I told you I wouldn't leave you behind, didn't I. Carrying you out was the only way for it.' I say. 'Like I said a while ago, too kind.' I chuckle at him, feeling the muscles in my abdomen ache. 'Oh you fucking heavy ass, how can you weigh so much.' I say. He laughs a little 'tiny ass woman carried me back home.' He says. 'No I didn't.' I say. 'Hmmmm you kinda did.' He says. 'Keep going and I'll kill you myself.' I say. 'Threat or a promise?' He asks with a smirk. 'Evan, I mean it!' I say. He raises his hand 'alright, alright.'
