I arrive at the base and park my car, throwing the bags over my shoulder and heading into the main building. I stop at the reception 'afternoon.' I say to the man there. He nods before turning his attention to me. 'Hello, how can I help?' He asks. 'I have a room reserved.' I say. He nods and looks back at the screen before looking up. 'What name?' He asks. 'Lieutenant Harris.' I say, he nods and gets up to grab the key for me. 'How long will you be staying?' He asks as he lays the key down in front of me. 'Not sure, let's try a week first.' I say. He nods and fills it in. 'Alright Lieutenant.' He says. 'Thanks, have a good day.' I say. He nods with a smile and I walk back out.
'Harris?' I look up 'general.' I say. 'What are you doing here?' He asks. 'Trouble at home. I'm staying here this week. Is there any work I can do?' I ask. 'Marksen's group is without a Sargent, though they went back with Marksen and they need training.' He says. 'Alright. I could start tomorrow.' I say. He looks at me 'no. Two days from to day. Take a day break.' He says. I sigh 'alright general.' I say back, unable to go against him. 'Don't sound so upset about it.' He says with a laugh as he pats me on my shoulder while walking past me. 'Two days from tomorrow, 5 am, my office.' He says. 'Yes sir.' I say.
The next day I sit at Evan's bedside, not knowing what else to do. He's asleep. It's been so long since I've been home. Just two days and now this. I hold my head in my hands as I let out a deep breath. God help me.
'Aims....' A hand touches my head a little, making me look up. 'Hey.' I say as I look away. 'What's wrong?' He asks weakly. 'Nothing to bother you with.' I say. 'Then...don't come to me.... making me worry.' He says. He's so much weaker then he was. 'Im staying at the base. Corpse and I are fighting.' I say. He gives me a sad smile and places his cold hand over mine. 'You don't look okay, Ev.' I say as I hold his cold hand between mine. 'I can't really eat... breathings painful.' He says. 'I'm so sorry.' I say as I squeeze his hand. 'Though....' he coughs and looks in pain when he does. 'Get your... ass back, to your man.' He says before letting out a deep breath. I look at him, a little confused. 'He loves you.... and...' he shifts 'You him.' He says.
I sigh. He's right. This isn't fair but staying away from him won't fix things. I'll head there after this week.
