Lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely
I have nobody for my own
I am so lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely
Wish I had someone
to call on the phone

~Bobby Vinton, Mr. Lonely

"Violet Anthony! I'm so glad that you picked up! I thought I might've needed to call your father to get your new number or something

"Violet Anthony! I'm so glad that you picked up! I thought I might've needed to call your father to get your new number or something."

Violet smiled, "Mr. Greene, it's nice to hear from you. Although, I do wish you would have called at a better time. I'm still in school right now. Luckily, I do have a free period at the moment."

"Please, I told you the summer before last that you could call me Sidney," the Broadway producer told her happily.

She walked onto the empty stage, "I truly didn't expect a call from you on a Monday afternoon, Sidney. So what do I owe the honor to?"

His thick New York accent shone through, "I don't know if you've heard from your dad, but I'm producing a new show. Well, not necessarily a new show, but a revival! We're doing Funny Girl!"

Violet's eyes practically bulged out of her head, "Funny Girl? Wow, you're gonna get so many auditions for Fanny. I actually know–"

He cut to the chase, "I'm calling because I want you to be Fanny."

"Me?" Violet asked.

"Yeah! I still remember how great you sang 'Funny Girl' when you auditioned for Maria. It was such a beautiful rendition, brought some tears to my eyes. I haven't had an audition make me feel anything like that since. That's how I knew you were perfect for Maria, and that's how I know you'll be an even more perfect Fanny Brice," Sidney pitched.

"But Sidney, 'Funny Girl' isn't even a number from the musical–"

He refuted, "We're adding it in. We're adding more songs into the second act, and 'Funny Girl' is going to be a big one."

"I'm still in high school," Violet tried to argue respectfully. "I'm actually in my senior year."

"So what?"

She replied, "What I'm trying to say is that I'm graduating this year, and I'm still auditioning for a bunch of universities right now."

She could hear him sigh through the phone, "Honestly, I don't understand why your father put you in public school. I asked him whenever I pass by and see him, but I don't know why you would even want to go to a public school in Ohio when you could be a big star right in your home state. Hell, your hometown."

"I mean, my friends–"

"Aren't they going to school in New York?" Sidney asked.

Violet sighed, "Yes, some of them are and some of them–"
