A/N: The song that Violet wrote is actually something that I wrote myself. If y'all want a recording of it, then just let me know and I can try to get a recording together for the story!

Violet was in the McKinley auditorium like usual, but instead of dancing, she had a guitar in hand and a pencil scribbling into a notebook the other. She's been trying out different methods for getting over Santana, and the next thing on her list was to write about. Violet didn't write songs all that often, but she always used it as a way to help her through stuff. It was just cathartic to her.
While Violet was scribbling down some lyrics, Sam entered the stage. "I'm surprised you're not dancing. You always dance when you're in here."
She turned around at the sound of Sam's voice, and she distractedly said, "Oh, hey Sam." before she continued to write.
"What? No snarky remark? No buttercup? Who are you and what have you done with Violet Maria Suzuki-Anthony?" Sam snatched the pencil out of Violet's hand, and pointed it accusingly at her.
She rolled her eyes, "Ha. Ha. Very funny. Now give it back. I'm in the middle of writing a song, and I don't want to lose momentum."
He then pulled a chair closer to where Violet was sitting and peered over at her songwriting journal. "A song? You write?"
"Yeah. Sometimes. Usually, I only write when I'm upset."
Sam nodded understandingly. Violet told him the broad strokes about what happened. She fell in love with the girl she was sleeping with but turns out, that girl was in love with someone else, so they broke off their arrangement. Sam coined it as the most break up sounding non-breakup he's ever heard. "Well, let's hear it!"
Violet shook her head, "I only have 2 verses and the chorus down. It's barely anything..."
"Well, it's enough for me to listen to. C'mon! I'll even sing with you!"
Violet caved, "Fine! But don't insult it just yet, okay?"
"Just sing it!"
Violet put her guitar in a proper playing position, and her journal was set on the piano bench right in front of her, "Alice and wonderland, I fell down the hole again. Entranced by the moments. Holdin' on to the times we shared, 'cause nothing else could compare."
Sam was hypnotized by her voice. Her emotions were so raw, and you could feel her soul through it. "Tea and the cookies. I loved how you looked at me. Your eyes shined like starlight, but you were never mine. Even though I tried."
Violet started to buildup the song more and more as she got to the chorus of her song, "It's not a fairytale. There's no happy ending. You're not my princess. We were just pretending. But then I got lost in the make-believe of it all. I didn't mean to fall. I didn't mean to fall for you-u-u."
As Violet was about to continue with the chorus, Sam took over the melody. Violet smiled at him and started singing harmony to it. "You-u-u. You-u-u. I didn't mean to fall. I didn't mean to fall for you."
He looked into her eyes and just got lost in them. She stared back, and the flutters in her stomach reappeared again. She snapped out of it and asked, "So what do you think?"
Sam looked away and cleared his throat, "Oh, um. It was really good. I really felt that whole 'loving someone that doesn't love you back' thing."
Violet looked at him confused, "What are you talking about? You have Santana don't you?"
Sam froze for a second, and then he came up with an excuse. "I mean I have Santana now, but before moving to Lima, I had a crush on this girl who just led me on."
