It comes down to reality
And it's fine with me
'cause I've let it slide
Don't care if it's Chinatown
or up on Riverside
I don't have any reasons
I've left them all behind
I'm in a New York state of mind

~Billy Joel, New York State of Mind

"I don't know why you told him to call the cops. They won't do anything about this," Violet rolled her eyes at Kurt.

When Violet arrived at Kurt's apartment the next day, she was hanging out with the engaged couple before Artie rolled into the apartment looking disheveled. He told the trio that he was mugged when he was going to the subway, and Kurt told him to call the police and report it. So, Artie was on the phone with the NYPD's non-emergent number to report his backpack missing.

"He has to do something about it," Kurt replied to her protest.

"People get robbed all the time. Hell, houses get robbed all the time, but the cops won't do anything about it unless you know the guy that did it and have proof. But other than that, they're useless," Violet tried to explain quietly as Artie raised his voice.

"Yeah, that computer costs over 1000 bucks! M-My credit card was in there, my phone..."

"Tell him that he was on crutches," Kurt reminded Artie.

"That won't do anything," Violet sighed.

"And..." Artie paused and his face went blank. "Yeah. Thanks so much for your help," he said sarcastically.

"That's it? Any leads?" Artie couldn't even respond because Blaine's SodaStream machine started hissing. Kurt frustratedly scolded him, "Blaine, do you have to use the SodaStream machine right now? Artie's in a very fragile state."

"Sorry," Blaine said unapologetically.

Kurt huffed, "I'm sorry about him. He just needs his bubbles."

Violet got back on topic, "Do you have insurance on your stuff? Or did you back up any of it?"

"No, I thought those were just scams," he replied exasperatedly.

"Hey, guys," Rachel walked in.

Blaine's sunny demeanor did not falter, "Hey, Rachel. Do you want a homemade sparkling, sugar-free soda?"

"Oh, no, thanks. The carbonation's bad for my vocal cords. But," Rachel overdramatically cleared her throat, "You know what I will take? Just some, like, hot water with, like, a little lemon... Thank you so much."

Artie and Kurt looked at them incredulously which confused Violet because it seemed obvious to her that they'd both act like this in this situation.
