A/N: important question at the end!

"Why weren't you in Glee Club this morning?" Violet turned away from her locker and looked up to see Mr. Schue with a confused look on his face. It was Violet's official first day of junior year, and she decided against going to Glee Club just because she still was unsure if she wanted to rejoin.
Violet got up from her crouching position and faced Mr. Schue, "I just decided that I needed some time adjusting and getting back into the swing of things. I have a week's worth of school to make up so..." Violet hadn't told him that she was rejoining, but he just assumed that she was, and she didn't exactly want to tell him otherwise.
"Well, I was just thinking that you can just jump back in. We've just started booty camp already, so we can be Nationals ready, and I'd really like your help. Mike's volunteered, but you know how much help we really need." Mr. Schue tried to joke around with Violet, but she wasn't biting. Her demeanor was cold which confused him because he's never really experienced this level of coldness from a Glee kid before. He cleared his throat, "Um... I was also thinking that you could be the choreographer for our musical West Side Story this year! Since you did Rocky–"
"Actually, I was planning on auditioning for Anita. It's a big dance role, so I wanted to try my hand at it," Violet interrupted Mr. Schue. She started to walk away from the stunned teacher but turned around, and said "Sorry." before going to her next class.
Violet wanted this year to be different from last year, and it was already. She wasn't the new kid anymore. She didn't have Sam or Kurt. She was completely single, and she didn't want to be in a relationship. This year, she wanted to focus on being single and spending as much time with her friends before they graduate. Violet was in the midst of a lot of drama last year, so she didn't want to remember that as the last year she spent in high school with a lot of her friends.
Vi was in her history class with Mercedes when they started talking about West Side Story auditions.
"I want to be Maria so bad. I just hope they give me a fair shot. I just think that this year, I have a chance against Berry."
Violet scoffed, "You always had a chance against Berry. She's just deluded enough to think that she's the best thing that's happened to McKinley. And besides, you have the confidence this year. Maria is yours."
Mercedes and Violet became especially close over the summer when Kurt decided that him and Rachel were best friends and spent every moment of summer together. Vi truly believed that Mercedes was a star in the making. For a while, it seemed like she didn't believe she had the talent, but Violet could see it, and Violet just wanted to show Mercedes how much of a star she truly is. Mercedes deserved to shine.
"I'm surprised that you're not going for Maria. You did play her the entire summer."
Violet shrugged, "I wanted to try something new. Plus, Anita is a lead with a major dance role, and I think that that's such a good fit."
"Well, it's just less competition for me. I think my only serious competition is Rachel."
The bell then rang, and the girls had to part ways. But before they did, Vi turned over to Mercedes, "Yeah, but what you have over Rachel are soul and authenticity."
Violet then walked out of the door and started walking to her next class when she heard Artie roll right next to her.
"I have a proposition for you. Audition for Maria," Artie had a grin on his face. He thought that if he could get Violet to play Maria, then it'd make his production even more professional, and it'd surely bring in tons of ticket sales since she actually played Maria on Broadway.
