It's 2am and
I can't believe you're gone.
Isn't it strange
how one life ends,
but the clocks on the wall,
they keep ticking
on and on and on.~Tori Kelly, Blink of an Eye
"Violet?"
"Hey you're that guitar girl in jazz band, right?"
"Violet?"
"Thanks, Violet. You always know what to say."
"Violet?"
"Even if this is like 70 years down the road when we're all old and wrinkly and stuff, would you take care of my family for me? Like I can only imagine how my future kids would react, and I'd want to have someone be there for them and my wife."
"Violet?"
"Hmm?" Violet replied to her therapist, Dr. Wilson.
"Do you want to start from the beginning?"
Violet was in her Dr. Wilson's office, and she was just staring blankly at the tree branches blowing in the wind that was right outside of the window.
"The very beginning?" Violet asked. "Or the night I found out?"
"Let's start with the night you found out."
Violet shifted in her seat slightly and looked back at Dr. Wilson as she was trying to figure out the words to say.
"It's okay, you can take your time. Whenever you're ready."
Vi took a deep breath and stared down at the rings that encompassed her fingers, trying to fight the urge to spin them around. She closed her eyes, "It was a week ago. I was at the Hudson-Hummel's for our Friday night dinner, and we were talking about prom because it was my senior prom the night before."
"So that Cheerio girl just full-on Carrie'd Tina?" Carol asked, and Violet nodded. "And I thought what they did to Kurt was bad."
"I was just so disappointed. Bree was one of the good ones," Violet tried to explain. "She always asked questions and always asked me for advice, and she was genuine. I mean, I think that I'm a pretty good judge of character, and she never seemed like she was trying to manipulate me to get ahead."
Burt shrugged as he swallowed a bite of the fried chicken Violet made, "Some people in this world are snakes, and sometimes you won't always be able to identify who they are. Sometimes people just want power and they're willing to hurt and manipulate anyone to get there."
Violet hummed, "I don't know... I just want to believe that people are better than that. They have to be, right? I mean, at least with Bree, I feel like there's something more. I don't think that she's just a two-dimensional person with her only purpose being power."
