I used to let some people
tell me how to live
and what to be,
but if I can't be me,
then what's the point?~Ariana Grande, "I Don't Care"
"Jacob Ben Israel here, back on the street with an exclusive look at McKinley's newest celebrities: the New Directions!"
It was the first day of school for McKinley High, and despite a new freshman class and new transfers, the first day was always the same for everyone. People were dressed in their "first day of school" clothes while catching up on the summer gossip, and then there was Jacob Ben Israel who was obviously fueling the rumor mill. And, while it was a new school year, McKinley was the same.
Well, besides the New Directions. Everything felt different for them. Everything was different for them.
I mean after winning a National Championship the year prior, their popularity skyrocketed much to the chagrin of most of the members.
Keyword being most.
Violet wasn't concerned with the popularity or fake friends. She had a lot of those in New York, and frankly, she came to Lima to escape that (among other things). While most of the New Directions were embracing this new change, Violet was just trying to avoid most of it while also trying to not miss her friends so much.
Another change from last year is that eight of the New Directions had graduated and dispersed across the country. Some, in particular, hurt more than others, but it was a part of life.
Violet Anthony was just trying to focus on making this the best senior year. After spending the past two years in Lima, she was determined in making her last year memorable before she returned to New York. She was thankful that she could spend whatever was left of her youth in whatever normalcy Lima gave her, but after graduation, it was time to make her triumphant return.
She didn't actually know what she wanted to do when she went back to New York. Hell, she didn't even know if she really wanted to go back to New York. Her entire life essentially revolves around her being forced to perform, and she honestly didn't know if she liked it or not.
Glee taught her that it was a great way to let out her creativity, but her mother also traumatized her, so Violet thought that maybe senior year would be a great way to explore some other options.
Honestly, the thought of the future slightly terrified Violet, but luckily, there was one person that always managed to make all of her anxieties melt away.
Sam Evans.
That summer was "magical" as Sam would put it. The couple stayed in Kentucky for most of the time, but they did make a few visits to New York where they both visited her dad and visited some college campuses. After being together for 4 months, they were as strong as ever. There were no surprise visits from her mother that could tear them apart or Broadway role offers or even other people.
