Cassarian|| One Shots

9. ENGLISH

It's a day like any other and Cassandra is training, as always, but she can't get one person out of her head.  That is Varian, the alchemist kid that she will have seen about two or three times, thanks to Rapunzel, but with whom he has found a special understanding.

  Cassandra doesn't want to admit to herself that she is most likely interested in him, so she does some extra workouts to get him out of her mind, but with poor results.

  Suddenly she hears a familiar voice coming from behind her.

  "Hey Cassie," Varian greets her.

  Cassandra still doesn't turn to greet him because she feels her heart beating fast.  After several seconds -or minutes- she turns and returns the greeting.

  "Emh.. do you know where I can find Rapunzel? I went to her room, but I didn't find her. I should talk to her about something" she says with a hand behind her neck, a symbol of embarrassment.

  The girl hearing these words has a fit of jealousy.

  Does Varian feel anything about Rapunzel?

  Cassandra turns around to not look at him.

  "Look kid, I don't know. Why don't you ask Sten and Pete instead of bothering me?"  the young woman asks coldly.

  The little boy, as if burned by those words, whispers a "thank you all the same" and leaves.

  "Ah, what have I done?"  Cassandra asks herself.

  "Excuse me Varian didn't want-", she turns to her direction but freezes noticing that the boy is gone.

  That same evening when Cassandra lies down in bed, she does nothing but think about him.

  Come on, I don't feel anything for him.  I don't have to feel anything for him.
  I can't have fallen in love with an alchemist and young nerd.
  But when I see it, I don't know, I feel good.
  For the first time in my life I am fine.
  I feel different when he is by my side, and with those deep blue eyes and that smile that always makes my heart beat.
  When he calls me Cassie, I feel like kissing him, but he would never love someone like me.  So cold and numb.
  He absolutely has to pass this infatuation I have for him.
  Then I can't afford certain things.  Absolutely not.

  And Cassandra falls asleep like this, dreaming of her and Varian hugging and exchanging a kiss.

  The next morning Cassandra wakes up early to do her daily workouts, but like a dejavù she hears Varian's voice saying "Hey Cassie"

  "Listen to me Var, I don't know where Rapunzel is, I didn't see her this morning" the girl exclaims jealously, even though she knows that Rapunzel has been engaged to Eugene for some time.

  "But I don't know here for Rapunzel"

  "Ah no?"

  "No, actually" she puts her hand behind her neck "I'm here... for you" says the boy.

  "For me? And why?"  the girl asks curiously.

  "Why should I talk to you.. about something very important," Varian says shyly.

  "Oh, ok. But fast, I have to train" Cassandra says returning to being the cold of all time.

  "I would like to tell you that-"

  He is interrupted by Rapunzel who exclaims "Hey Varian, in the end you declared yourself as I advised you ehh"
  Varian signals to be quiet, but apparently the princess doesn't understand.

  "Now are you together? Tell me yes, you would be too good together"

  Cassandra hearing everything she can't believe it.  Varian has feelings for her.  He opens his mouth in surprise, but he can't speak.

  Varian sees Cassandra in trouble so he intervenes
  "Cassie, I didn't want you to know that .."

  "Sorry, I thought Varian told you. I'm sorry Cass," Rapunzel says apologetically.

  "Don't worry Raps"

  "Now I leave you alone" and so the princess leaves, leaving them alone in a veil of embarrassment.

  "I-" Varian starts, but Cassandra stops him.

  "Do you really feel anything for me?"  the little boy nods shyly.

  "Wow. I didn't think you reciprocate my feelings. And you know I'm not good at talking about that but I'd like to try." Varian's lips part in surprise after hearing those words.

  "I think I love you Var, from the first moment I saw you. You make me feel good, as good as I have ever been and that makes me happy. Even though I denied my feelings for fear of losing you, I sincerely feel something  for you" confesses the young woman to the boy.

  "I… I don't know what to say," Varian says.

  "Don't say anything and kiss me alchemist of my heart".

  Cassandra draws him to her to give him a kiss that Varian returns with great pleasure.
