24. ENGLISH

Cassandra and Varian were at the young alchemist's house.  They had been together for some time now, but no one knew, not even their friends.
Varian declared his feelings to Cassandra with embarrassment, and the young woman had to accept that she too felt something for him.  So they got together in secret, but decided it was time to tell, at least to their friends, who had always supported them in everything.

"Are you ready to tell our friends that we are a couple?"  Varian asked as he kissed Cassandra's neck.  They were still in bed.

"No.. I mean yes .." the girl said hesitantly "I'm just scared.. that's all"

Varian stopped kissing her and looked into her eyes "Why Cassie? You don't have to. They are our friends and they will surely be happy for us."

"Are you sure?"  Cassandra asked.

"Yes, Cassie. And then.. since when are you scared?"  Varian asked with a smile, but when he heard Cass's words, his smile disappeared.

"Since we have eight years of difference!"  she exclaimed.

Cassandra had never been afraid of anything in her life, but since she was with Varian the fear of being judged grew more and more in her.  What would people have said about her?  What would people have said about them?  These were the questions that tormented Cass.  Although the two of them were the perfect couple: both had been "criminals" in Corona, both had hurt the princess in some way and both were frowned upon by the people of Corona.  Even though both had made amends, the two guys didn't show up in the city often.

"Is this your problem? My age?"  Varian turned abruptly away from Cassandra and got out of bed.  Same thing Cassandra did.

"I... I don't know," the young woman said with tears in her eyes.

"Then why are you with me?"  Varian yelled.

"Because I fucking love you!"  she yelled.

Varian was surprised for a moment to hear those words "Y-you never told me..." he said.

"Talking about my feelings has always been complicated" the girl said smiling with tears in her eyes "But yes, Varian. I love you"

"Cassie, I love you too, you can't imagine how much. But if my age is a problem.. why did you choose to be with me that day?"  Varian asked, approaching his girlfriend.

"Because, I repeat, I love you and I can't imagine a life without you. But understand me, I'm afraid. Afraid of what people will say, afraid of what our friends will say. And it's not just age , but also our past.. "

"You never forgave me, did you?"  Varian asked feeling hurt.

"Sure! Sure I've forgiven you!"  Cassandra said putting her hands on Varian's face, even lower than her "But I'm just scared"

"Cassandra.." Varian said with a loving tone "You don't have to be afraid, you have me" the boy shook Cass's hand "and you don't care what people say or think about us, as you always have"

"You're right, Vari, you're right."

The next day Cassandra and Varian headed to the palace to talk to Rapunzel and Eugene and say they were together.  Rapunzel was thrilled and Eugene was no exception.  After all, the two royals always knew they were meant to be together.  As for the people, well, Cassandra took Varian's advice and she don't care what they say.
