Varian woke up delighted that day.  It was her eighteenth birthday and finally he was of age.

"From today they will see me with different eyes, no longer as the little boy I was," he told to his raccoon Ruddiger, looking in the mirror.

"Hey son, happy birthday," Quirin said as he entered Varian's room.

"Dad! Thank you," the boy said and they hugged each other warmly.

"I have something for you.." he gave him a letter "an owl gave it to me" Quirin said scratching his head.

"A-An owl?"  he asked and his father nodded "That means Cassie is back! Dad I have to go, see you later" he said greeting his father with enthusiasm.

"Ahh, the love," he said, smiling at the young alchemist's father.

Varian, towards the castle road, began to read the letter Owl had given to his father.  He opened it and read the contents.

If you want to find me follow the directions. The first is "our first meeting"
-Cassie.

Her heart started beating fast, Cassandra signed herself with her name that Varian had given her in the science exposition four years ago.

"Ruddiger, we have to go back. Our first meeting was in my laboratory, why didn't I read the letter before?"  he wondered.

So he and his friend headed back to Old Corona and when he got to his house he went into the laboratory and looked for the second clue. He realized that his father was not there, but he did not give much importance to this, since he could stay in their garden, like every day.

He searched the whole lab until he found the second clue in the "Flynn Rider" books.  He opened the letter and read it.

"Co-ladies-in-waiting", remember?
-Cassie

Varian and his trusty raccoon looked into questioning eyes.  First he didn't understand why he would have to go on a treasure hunt to find Cassandra and second he couldn't understand the clue.  He scratched his head questioningly, but then a memory came to him from 4 years ago, when he helped Cassandra with the lady-waiting duties to allow her to do the royal guard.

So he headed straight into the castle courtyard looking for the next clue. He could't find it in the courtyard, so he went into the castle.  He strangely he didn't see anyone, but he didn't care.  They were most likely engaged in some royal work.

Arrived at the floor where Cassandra confided in him about his father he saw a staircase, in the same place where it was placed 4 years earlier.  Varian smiled at the memory.  He found the clue on the ladder and read it.

You're almost there! You will find the last clue to "our" fountain.
-Cassie

Varian quickly figured out where to go.  So he left the castle and headed in the direction of the fountain.  Passing through the courtyard of the castle he remembered when Cassandra saved him for the second time and he smiled. He understood what Cass's plan was. It was remembering all the good times they had together before she left to seek her destiny.  But why?  This was the question that Varian kept repeating in his mind.

Arriving at the fountain he remembered what Cassandra told him.
"But you did impress me. Varian you're a great kid, you're smart, you're compassionate. You're unique."

He smiled at that memory and felt a tear fall from his eye.  He took the last letter and read it.

Good Varian. If you have come this far it means that you still care about me, as I care about you and that you still keep our moments alive in your crazy alchemist's head.  To find me enter the castle and go to the throne room, I'll be there with Rapunzel, Fitzherbert and all the others, I have to tell you something important.
-Your Cassie

Varian after reading the last clue, along with Ruddiger, ran into the throne room.  When she opened the two doors, she saw no one.  Just a figure in the shadows.

"Hey there!"  exclaimed Varian "Cassandra, is that you?"  he asked him.

"Varian !!"  exclaimed the girl coming out of the shadows and ran towards the young alchemist.

Varian also ran up to meet Cassandra in a tender embrace.

"Cassie, what are you doing here? Have you found your destiny? And where are the others?"

"Slowly Varian, one question at a time" Cassandra laughed "I came here for your birthday, kid and then I asked everyone else to leave us alone to well... to talk to you"

The two boys were still embraced, but so that they could see each other in the eyes.  Varian had his hands on Cassandra's waist as she intertwined them behind the boy's neck.

"Tell me, mi lady" the eighteen year old smiled sweetly and Cassandra broke away from the shy embrace.

"You know I'm not good at confessing my feelings, but well.. there is this thing I have to tell you. Every day.. when I was away I thought.. of you, of all our moments, of  when you gave me the Cassandrium, which as you can see I still have. Or when you called me for the first time Cassie and I told you not to call me that. Or even when at the fountain you told me you wanted to impress me and Varian, you did it. I don't know if you still like me, but I wanted to tell you that I.. "the young woman sighed" I love you Var. And to answer the question above, my destiny is to stay here, in Corona, with people  that I love, including you. And if you love me, kiss me, because I've been waiting for this moment for too long "

Without another word, Varian took her face and kissed her.  Their lips moved slowly with love and passion.  Everything was perfect in that moment and Varian couldn't help but be happier.  When they broke away from the kiss they caught their breath and Varian an inch from his beloved's face said, "I love you too. Thanks for this wonderful birthday."  They both smiled and gave each other another kiss and then started celebrating with their friends too.

This chapter is in honor of Varian's 18th birthday and I hope you enjoyed it.
