techno froze, eyes wide with unwelcome shock. he didnt expect it. he didnt expect any of it. but it happened, and threw him off guard.
"what...?" he whispered, voice breaking mid-sentence. tommy gave the older a hard, unregretful look. "i said im siding with tubbo. techno, youre gonna blow up my home, and i cant allow that. im sorry, but this is how it has to be."
the piglin had a look of broken disbelief on his face. after all he had done to protect him, he just turned tail and switched sides because he didnt want techno to go through with his plan he had made clear from the start?
it was unbelievable, but techno had to accept the truth. tommy only sided with him to get his discs back, he knew that, and that wasnt what twisted his insides.
what twisted his insides is the fact that he decided this after they reformed a long lost bond.
the pinkette felt a familiar feeling sting the back of his eyes, and he huffed frustratedly. his long tail flicked and he opened his scarred mouth.
"tommy," he said, voice firm and laced with hate. it made tommy flinch. "this- theres no coming back from this." and he threw an ender pearl, diving into the cool water.
he ran into the tall portal, tears pouring out of his different colored eyes. he entered the nether and quickly ran down the path to his and phils home.
he went through the second portal, and thats when he noticed he couldnt see. he sniffled and rubbed the salty liquid out of his eyes. he shuddered under the cold breeze and stomped through the thick snow.
when tears once again clouded his vision, he didnt bother to wipe them away. he would do that when he saw the familiar cabin.
when he did, he stopped walking. he held his head down and pressed his gloved palms against his wet eyes. he took them off his face and continued walking.
up the steps, he heard phil shuffling inside, nearing the same door he was. he had his hand on the knob, and opened it, meeting phil. though, he didnt look into his eyes.
phil frowned, and stepped back patiently as he saw techno rush to take his boots and cape off. the winged man got even more worried when techno went up the ladder quickly, nearly slipping.
he knew something was up with his son, and he was prepared to ask him about it, but he knew techno wasnt, so he planned on waiting.
when techno reached the top floor, he sniffed and flopped onto his bed. his tail curled around his leg and he choked down a sob. he brought his knees closer to himself and shoved his face into his still gloved hands.
he bit his lip as fresh tears fell down his tinted cheeks. he didnt want phil to worry, even though he knew phil was already aware. but, he still hoped he hadnt noticed.
as he cried silently, he didnt notice the creak of the floorboards as phil stepped onto them.
he only noticed when the bed dipped beside him, the patient presence of the older calming him only slightly. it was nice, though.
he knew he was safe with phil. the shorter made sure of that.
he jumped when phil touched his shoulder lightly, and the hand soon moved away from his slightly shivering frame.
"hey, techno?" phil whispered, slowly standing up from the bed. technos ear flicked and he hummed in acknowledgement. "yeah...?" he mumbled, sniffling.
phil smiled a little, and he grabbed a spare soft blanket off a single chest, walking back to the younger. he gently placed his hand back on technos shoulder, and this time the other didnt jump.
phil smiled wider at this, and carefully pulled techno upright. he slowly draped the blanket over technos shoulders, and sat beside him once more.
though, he frowned when he saw the youngers tear stained cheeks, puffy eyes and quivering lip.
he instinctively wrapped his wing lightly around the taller, gently pushing himself closer to him. techno sniffled again, rubbing his eyes.
"can i hug you?" phil asked, softly. there was a small pause. one second. two. three. four. and then an answer. not voiced, just a small, noticeable nod.
phil smiled and lightly wrapped his arms around techno, carefully pulling the other closer and moving him so he was facing the older, and not the wall.
technos tail flicked gently, and he slowly wrapped his no longer shaking arms around phils torso.
"im not leaving. i wont break my promise to you, okay? i love you, techno. i always have and forever will. dont forget that, alright?"
techno felt more tears burst out of his eyes. he hiccuped and sobbed, his hands tightly, desperately holding onto phils shirt.
he didnt want to let go, he didnt want phil to leave, and he knew he wouldnt. he just said he wouldnt break his promise. he never had. he could trust phil, and so he would.
"i love you, too, dad." phil smiled. techno stopped crying, but he decided he would still take what phil was happily offering. he was happy, and grateful, that someone was actually there for him.
he liked it when he was reminded of before all of it. before all the wars, before all the real pain. before wilbur and tommy started lmanberg.
before it all.
when it was all so simple and nice.
when tommy didnt have to worry about being tricked and manipulated.
when wilbur didnt have amnesia, when he wasnt dead, and when he didnt have suppressed trauma.
when techno actively had help from the others with his voices, when he wasnt betrayed and used as a weapon 24/7.
when phil wasnt traumatized by being forced to kill his insane son.
when phil loved them all equally.
he wanted to go back to that. they all did. it was so easy, too easy back then. but they liked it that way.
they never wanted to grow up and be beaten down by insanity, voices constantly jabbering about this and that, blood and war, isolation and manipulation.
killing your own son.
it was too much for all of them, and many more.
but, in that little moment, techno and phil were brought back to the past.
and they enjoyed it.
