narrative y/n is getting ready for her final graduation. she's graduating from medical school, finally getting her Ph.D. after years of hard work. the woman finishes her hair and now needs Vinnie's help to zip up her dress.
"babe, can you please help me zip this up." she raises her voice from the bathroom. "yeah," he replies, walking into the bathroom. he stands there gradually admiring his girlfriend.
"zip it. I'm gonna be late!" she knocks him out of his trance. "right... you okay love? you seem a bit off." Vinnie questions as he notices his girlfriend seems bothered by something.
"Yeah I'm fine I guess. jay never texted me today and he usually does. he did last night and said he can't come home today. I haven't seen him in six months. I just wanna see my brother at my graduation." she sighs.
Vinnie pouts knowing how badly she misses her brother. Him being in the army has affected y/n a lot. they were close, inseparable.
"he's proud of you y/n. now cmon, you only have a few minutes till it starts." he kisses her forehead before walking out. y/n stays behind a bit, looking at herself in the mirror. "it's all for you." she whispers.
graduation
y/n is sitting with the other graduates, Vinnie sitting with her parents and their friends. "is y/n okay?" y/n's mom asks Vinnie. "yeah, just a bit bummed out jay isn't here."
"NOW, ONE OF OUR HARDWORKING STUDENTS WHO WE'VE HAD. EARNING HER Ph.D. IN THE MEDICAL FIELD, Y/N Y/L/N!" the principal claps, y/n walking into the stage, the crowd cheering and clapping.
she grabs the degree, shaking all the professors' hands, walking the stage, but still wishing her brother was there.
vinnie's phone rings catching him off guard. he sees the caller ID and gets up, separating himself from the family. "hello?" "Vinnie? yeah, my plane is delayed by an hour. I might be there around seven. I'm so sorry." the voice speaks.
"it's okay. I'll just stall and send you the restaurant address." "Alright, sorry about that. is y/n okay?"
"she's- uhm.." Vinnie looks at the girl who's sitting down. "she's okay... I guess."
"Okay... I gotta go. imma try to be there earlier than seven. I'll keep you updated." the voice says before hanging up. Vinnie sighs and puts his phone in his pocket, walking back to the chairs full of other families and friends.
"What happened?" Liya whispers behind Vinnie. "he said his plane is held back by an hour and will be here around seven."
6:30pm
y/n's pov "Y/N CMON GET READY! OUR RESERVATION IS AT SEVEN!" Vinnie yells for the second time tonight. "can you pick a dress for me then?" I groan while touching up my makeup.
"here." he hands me my black two-piece like dress. "babe... this is... it's just dinner?" I've now turned around, fully looking up at him.
"yeah, I know. it's YOUR graduation dinner. now wear it." "can I wear jeans or something?" I reason. "no. now put it on and stop being so fucking hard-headed." he walks out of the room. vinnie's been so pushy today and it's annoying.
I throw my makeup brush at my vanity and change into a white two-piece instead.

"read- y/n." Vinnie stares at me in disbelief. "I'm not wearing that dress you gave. why can't we just stay home and watch movies or something."
"okay.. fine be that way," he mumbles and walks out of the house. "I don't why you're upset but okay." I scoff. "just get in the fucking car. you're so hard-headed."
"because I don't understand why you're so passionate about going to this dinner thing. it's so unnecessary," I say as I put on my seatbelt.
"Just shut up and enjoy the ride."
restaurant
Vinnie reserved the whole restaurant for no reason. it's just my mom, dad, him, and our friends. "what's wrong? you seem like you don't wanna be at your dinner party?" Liya questions next to me only for the both of us to hear.
"Vinnie literally forced me to come here." Liya just laughs in response. I look at Vinnie who's on his phone. he's been on his phone ever since we got here. why did he wanna come if he was just gonna be on his phone the whole time?
"you're such an ass," I mutter. "I heard that. stop being such a brat and close your eyes." Vinnie shuts off his phone now paying attention to me. "for what?"
"Just close your damn eyes." I oblige and close my eyes. "KEEP THEM CLOSED!" his voice a bit farther away from me. I feel somebody grab my arm indicating for me to stand up. I hesitantly stand up, grabbing onto whoever's arm this is.
"Okay, open."
I open my eyes and see my brother. I look around making sure I'm seeing this correctly. "damn bitch. a great way to say hi." jay says sassily. I laugh before tightly hugging him.
"congrats sis." he mumbles in my neck. "when did you?" "say thank you to your boyfriend."
I pull away and look at Vinnie who's smiling widely. "THANK YOUU!" my arms now wrapping around him, kissing his lips repeatedly. "your parents helped too."
I turn around and whisper thanks to my parents, my eyes getting glassy. "that's why I wanted you to come here. it was a surprise because I know how much you miss your brother." Vinnie chuckles.
"THANK YOU THANK YOU! I promise I'll make it up to you later." I whisper the last part. "I know you will."
"so fill me in on what I've missed." jay sits down, Liya moving over so he can sit next to me.
