────────────────────────────y/n's pov
i slowly open my eyes and stretch my body, bones slightly cracking in the process. my eyes wander around and stop at the picture on my nightstand. everything comes back to me from last year. it's father's day."MOM MOM PLEASE MAKE IT STOP" i hear iivorey cry. i get up and rush to her room, she's sitting up as tears stream down her face. "mom please." i pull her into my chest, rubbing her head, her arms clinging on to me for dear life.
"shh, you're okay my love. it's okay, you're safe. it's okay" i coo. her breathing slowly calms down making me feel guilty once again. the past year hasn't been the easiest. "good morning mrs.hacker, the car is going to be here in an hour for the ball" the maid informs me.
i nod and focus back on my daughter. "do you want to come with me or stay here?" i look at her eyes that are full of fear and honestly i can't blame her. "you don't have to go, it's up to you."
"but what if you don't come back from it either?" her voice cracks, my heart dropping at her sentence. "i'm going to come back, i promise. i wouldn't leave you baby."
she inhales sharply before nodding, "i'll go." "ask amy and she'll give you options to wear. you have fifty minutes" i tell her and then walk to my son's room. i knock and hear a quiet 'come in'.
"oh, hey mom." "hey brandon. i came to ask if you want to come with me... to the annual ball? your sister decided to go." he looks up at me with tears welling in his eyes.
"so i'm gonna lose you too? why can't we let this lifestyle go? yeah, it's nice and all but i can't lose both my parents because of it" he begins to cry. i take a deep breath trying to not cry in front of the children.
"i'm not leaving you, okay? we cant leave this lifestyle brandon. your dad was passed on the leadership, as well as me. it's just that we decided to come together as one. it's not as easy as you think and i think we can all agree on that. trust me, id leave this lifestyle in a heartbeat. but you do know this mafia will do anything to protect you guys, they're especially protective over children" i attempt to comfort him.
"WHY COULDN'T THEY HAVE DONE THAT WITH DAD? HUH? NOW HE'S NOT HERE, THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HIS DAY AND HE'S NOT EVEN HERE TO CELEBRATE IT" he snaps, tears daring to spill my eyes at any moment. "you know how much i miss him. mom i can't do it. i just want a normal life. you're a great mom, trust me but i miss him so much" he brings me into a hug, crying into my shirt.
i feel tears fall, wiping them quickly. "you can choose if you want to go. if you're not comfortable with going, don't" i soothingly rub his back before walking out his room.

i stare at the suit in awe.
"do i look fine?" vinnie stands in front of me. "you look perfect" my eyes taking in how good he looks. the color of blue complimenting him. "yeah yeah, stop gawking and do your makeup, you take forever with makeup. actually, you don't need it. go natural" he suggests.
i raise an eyebrow, vinnie serious than ever. "how about, you pick out my dress?" i offer instead, his head shaking vigorously.
i observe myself in the mirror, the dress being the one he couldn't decide between.
"this one or this one?" he talks to himself as he holds two blue ball gowns. "but this one..." he groans. "no this one. you know what, let's do this" vinnie hangs the other dress up but quickly stops himself. "no this one... HELP ME Y/N!" i hear him behind me.
