I had been watching YouTube videos in my kitchen all day. I started off watching gaming videos, but somehow I ended up watching two men build a pool out of mud and sticks. I was intrigued. I could feel a gush of air blast behind me. I thought nothing of it and continued to watch the building videos. The air blew past again as I looked around the room.
"I need to get that AC fixed," I thought to myself.
I looked back down at the kitchen counter. My phone was missing. I sighed.
"Give it back, Peter, " I yelled into the air.
Another gust of wind flew past as the silver-haired man appeared out of nowhere. Peter laughed with my phone in his hand.
"Seriously, Y/n," Peter laughed, "This is what you watch when you're home alone."
I tried to snatch the phone out of his hand, but he moved his arm too quickly.
"Not quick enough, " he teased, "I got you something for your birthday."
I raised an eyebrow as he pulled out a black box from behind his back and handed it to me. I opened the box to see a necklace and a price tag. Twenty thousand dollars.
"Return it, Peter, " I demanded.
"No, " Peter responded, "It's your birthday, Y/n. You deserve something special; something to show how much you matter to me."
He stepped behind me and placed a heart-shaped diamond necklace around my neck. It was gorgeous. I realized I could not keep it and it would solely be a matter of time until the authorities showed up at our door.
"Look at me, " the silver-haired man instructed.
I turned around and faced him. An enormous smile grew on his face as his eyes lit up. He looked adorable.
"Y/n, " Peter praised, "You look stunning."
I looked down at the jewelry around my neck. Admiring each diamond as it shone in the light.
"I can't keep this, Peter, " I cried.
Peter's smile dropped. His happy expression twisted into a sad one. I reached behind my head and unclasped the necklace.
"Why not, " He whimpered, "I got it for you. I wanted to show you how much I cared."
"I know how much you care, " I acknowledged, "I care about you too. I love you, but I can't keep this. I don't want you to go to prison, especially not over me. You have to return or else."
Peter had a habit of 'borrowing' things. He was a kleptomaniac and in serious trouble with the law. The only reason the government never arrested him was because of his mutant powers. They had a deal. If Peter uses his powers to help save the world, the government would pardon all of his crimes. However, none of his previous crimes involved a twenty-thousand-dollar diamond necklace.
"They aren't going to arrest me, babe, " he testified, "We had a deal, remember?"
"That deal was for petty crimes, " I cried out, "Stealing boxes of twinkies, stealing video games, stealing a bottle of water- Peter, this is a twenty thousand dollar necklace. There's nothing petty about that- that's someone's life savings."
I dropped to my knees and cried. Peter could be stupid, but I didn't think he could be this stupid. Peter soon joined me on the floor and pulled me into him.
"Don't cry, Y/n, " he comforted me, "It was a prank. I didn't steal that necklace."
I pulled away from him and glared him down.
"What, " I rasped.
"I didn't steal it, " Peter chuckled, "I had been saving up to buy it for a while now."
"Pietro Maximoff, you are a jerk, " I exclaimed, "Why the hell would you do that?"
"I thought it would be funny, " he confessed.
I punched him in the arm and put the necklace back on.
"Ouch, Y/n, " Peter shouted, "You can not be that mad at me. I'm sorry. At least I didn't steal the necklace...I stole the money to buy it, though."
"I love you, Peter, " I chuckled.
"I love you too, Y/n, " Peter smiled.
