Author's Note: This story is a continuation of Day 1,406. I wrote the chapters in a daily sequence like in the show.
Cooper's resuspension left me to suffer alone in school again after attacking my bully. The curly-haired Edgar Allen Poe wannabe haunted my brain throughout every class. He even showed up in dreams when I fell asleep in math class. I missed everything about him: his warm brown eyes were like a fresh cup of coffee, his smooth skin was soft like a baby's blanket, and his hypnotizing smile bewitched me at every glance. He could've been at home thinking about more ways to enhance his stories, but I wondered if he thought about me when I wasn't around. Cooper told me I was the prettiest girl he'd ever met, but did I cross his mind when he was at home? Did he sit in his room creating a fantasy where we were together? Did the thought of me make him smile whenever he saw my face? The days became more difficult as I hid my secret crush on Cooper Day.
Cooper stared back at me wherever I looked. My delusions had gotten so bad that he appeared in my mashed potatoes at lunch. I took a volleyball to the head in gym class, and even while lying on the floor, all I could think about was how he would've laughed if he had been around. The nurse asked me if the blow to the head made me see stars; the only thing floating around my head were images of his smile. I needed to see him before I lost my mind.
I rode my bike straight to the Day's residence house after school, speeding past like Speedy Gonzales. Nothing could stop me from getting to my destination- Cooper. Mr. Day let me inside the house without hassle and offered for me to stay for dinner. I'd stayed over for dinner multiple times before but now it felt like an opportunity of a lifetime. Cooper and I would sit together eating, talking, and making inside jokes. The thought thrilled me, but I had to decline since I had plans for later and headed to Cooper's room. He hadn't noticed I'd opened the door as he sat in the middle of his bed, his eyes focused on his laptop screen.
"Hey, Coop. I brought you a homework packet," I announced.
Cooper's face paled when he looked up and saw me. His movements became frantic as he tossed his laptop onto his bed.
"Hey, I didn't know you would stop by so early," Cooper greeted.
He grinned nervously as his eyes shifted between me and the computer. It didn't take an eye doctor to see that he wanted to hide something from me. It wouldn't be long til I found out what it was. Cooper wouldn't let me hide things from him. Yesterday was an enormous example of that. The time came to reciprocate the same energy he'd given me. I closed his room door behind me and walked toward the bed.
"By the way, we're not allowed to close doors when we have guests anymore. You can thank Natalie's pregnancy test for that," he informed.
"Don't worry. I won't be long," I responded. "I'm getting my hair braided in a few so I need to leave soon, but I wanted to stop by before I did."
The brunette's face turned pink as I sat on the edge of his bed and he subtly slid his laptop underneath his pillow. He could attempt to hide it from me all he wanted. I would have my answers by the time I needed to leave.
"What's on the laptop?" I questioned.
"Oh- uh. Nothing. It's just a writing prompt I'm working on," he lied. "You know me, I'm always writing and stuff. As I do... and stuff."
His striking eyes locked into mine. Most people look down to avoid you seeing the truth within them, but you couldn't pay him to take his eyes off me. It was my biggest weakness about him. He would only look away from me when he was irritated with me and even then, I would still catch him peeking in my direction.
"Uh-huh. You know you seem a little nervous about that writing prompt. Confident Cooper being timid about his excellent craft is something I've never witnessed," I expressed. "What are you writing about this time?"
