Author Note: I was thinking of Bobby Valentino when I wrote this. For those who get it, salute. For those who don't, what did y'all mama make y'all listen to on cleaning day? Side note- I've been getting a lot of inspiration from listening to my favorite R&B classics of my childhood. So, more stories are on the way.
Saturdays were hands down my favorite day of the week. Work wasn't stressing me out. The school was closed, so my neighbors' kids weren't next door screaming at the top of their lungs about the crusts on their sandwiches. But what thrilled me most was that I could visit my friend at her job, and I got a discount. My favorite hobby was coming to the outlet mall where she worked. It always was a peaceful experience- not to mention the food spots were the best in the entire city. They had a cookie shop that sold cookies larger than your head, and my top priority was stopping by there. Of course, visiting my friend was also a top priority, but my friend wasn't a delicious cookie. She could wait a while, and I'd get her one too.
The mall was always more crowded on Saturdays. Which is normal, but today, the reason for the masses is different. A candidate for the city council seat announced that anyone who came to a local restaurant would get free food earlier on the news. I forgot who, though. I never paid much attention to politics, especially since my friend would give me a rundown towards the voting season, anyway. Paying for everyone's food was a clever way to boost his campaign and get more consumers for the cafe. I wouldn't have cared had I not heard 'free food.' People were stuffed inside the place, and a line outside stopped four stores down. Free food sounded promising, but not if I had to wait hours.
I strolled past the line while informing everyone I passed by that I was not skipping the line and heading to the cookie shop- people will fight for croissants. As I passed by the last person in the line, I noticed a man interacting and greeting many people. The blue-haired man grinned as he shook hands and thanked everyone for coming. He must've been the candidate who put this entire congregation together. I had to admit he was more attractive than I'd assumed; when I usually think of politicians, I think of grotesque old guys who are just bitter that their dicks can't get up anymore, so they torment the world with bullshit decisions to make others' life as terrible as their own, so seeing this youthful brown-eyed hunk surprised me. Damn, he could get my vote off of his looks, but I needed to check in with my friend first because he could be a terrorist- most politicians are.
The man high-fived a child- it was one of my neighbor's kids, ironically. I thought it was the most adorable thing, but what was even more cute was the double take the man did as he watched me come closer. I intended to keep walking by, but the adorableness of my neighbor's son trapped me when he tapped my back and gained my attention. I turned around to the boy looking at me with an enthusiastic smile. These children were so cute; they treated meeting a politician like they had met Rihanna. Little did they know that Rihanna brings them joy and happiness with music- politicians are why their school lunches move without being touched. The little blonde's eyes lit up as he saw me. I couldn't help but smile. The man couldn't take his eyes off me as I stood before them.
"Hi, Miss Y/n," my neighbor's kid called.
"Hi, Charlie. It's so funny seeing you out here. Aren't you supposed to be at the zoo," I questioned.
"Yeah, we're going after we leave. Mom said this man was giving us free food, so we got to have whatever we wanted. I'm going to get all the blueberry muffins in the world," Charlie boasted.
I looked up at the man. God, he was breathtaking. He bit his lip as he studied me up and down. Well, he had the kids in the chokehold and almost me as well. I brought attention back to the little boy.
"How sweet of this man! That's amazing, Charlie, but don't you think you should have some muffins for others," I chuckled.
Charlie stood and thought for a moment. I babysat him and his sister occasionally, and he did not believe sharing was caring, but we were working on it.
