"Be careful, Y/n, " my mom yelled through the screen door, "Try not to get hurt."

"I will, mom, " I smiled as I ran to the sidewalk with my new skateboard in my hand.

"And remember no boys, " she said sternly.

"I know I know, " I sighed, "They're no good,"

I watched her blow a kiss, "I love you, Sandy."

"Mom, stop calling me that, " I folded my arms, "I'm almost a 9th grader now. I'm too old to be called that. It's embarrassing."

I looked around, hoping that there was no one around to have heard her call me that. I was always a cheeky baby so they'd call me cheeks, which ironically turned into everyone calling me Sandy, and I hated it.

I love her, but I was becoming a teenager. I couldn't be Sandy anymore. I was an adult. Almost. I needed a more adult nickname.

"I know, I know, " she began to cry, "My baby girl is all grown up. She doesn't even want to be my Sandy anymore."

"Mom, stop, " I begged, "I love you too, and I'll be careful. Can I go hang out with my friend now, please?"

"Fine, " She sniffled, "But put on your helmet."

I grabbed my helmet from off of the ground and put it over my head.

"Okay, have fun, " she wailed as she closed the front door.

I took the helmet off and tossed it right back onto the ground. Mothers. Overdramatic for what reason. I dropped my board onto the ground and rode it down the street to my friend Julie's house. She was already outside typing away at her pager. I skated up to her mailbox.

"Hey, Julie, what's going on, " I greeted her.

"Hey, Sandy, " Julie sighed, "I was just about to page you. I'm freaking grounded."

"What, why, " I gasped.

"Because my brother's a douche, " she rolled her eyes, "He broke my mom's sewing machine and then blamed me for it, and can you believe she believed him over me."

Julie threw her pager onto the ground. We both watched in horror as it shattered against the sidewalk. Uh oh-

"Oh no, " Julie shrieked, "My mom's gonna kill me."

Julie quickly collected the pieces of what used to be her pager off of the ground.

"What am I going to do now, " Julie began to hyperventilate, "I just got this a few weeks ago."

"Blame it on your brother, " I suggested, "he lied on you, so you should do the same. Tell her that he broke it because you tried to tell on him."

"Good idea, "  Julie confided, "I can't come out today, but after tonight I'll be off punishment tomorrow. We can go to the mall then."

"Sounds like a plan, " I nodded, "See you tomorrow."

"See you tomorrow, Julie said as she ran to her front door, "Bye Sandy."

"That's not my name anymore, " I yelled out.

I sighed to myself. Well, my plans for today have been postponed. I slowly rode down the sidewalk. I guess I was going to the mall alone today.

"Hey, Sandy, " a voice called from behind, "Wait up!"

I stopped and looked at the person calling me. The adorable brown-haired boy slowed down as he skated towards me. It was Russell Hayes, my walking headache. I looked around to make sure no one saw me talking to him. I couldn't have my reputation ruined before I even stepped foot in the school.
