I swooned as I watched the brown-haired boy skate past the fountain for the 100th time today in an attempt to get my attention. I kept on pretending to ignore him and took a bite out of my sandwich waiting for my friends to get here. Eventually, the boy skated his way over to me.
"Hey, Y/n, " he spoke with that sweet goofy smile of his, "Are you waiting on Julie and Yancy?"
"Yeah, Spongebob, I am, " I answered back, "Now what do you want?"
"Just wanted to know if needed some company until they get here, " He shrugged, "You seemed lonely, but I've learned the drill. If you want me to leave I'll go."
I didn't want him to leave. I wanted his company. I've always liked Spongebob he's adorable. I would never tell Julie that though because I would never hear the end about how there are so many popular guys that she could set me up with, yet I liked this dork. Spongebob started to skate off.
"I don't mind, " I said to him before he could skate too far off, "I could stand some company."
There it was. That goofy smile. The one that stole my heart. He skated back and sat down next to me gaining a lot of weird looks from others.
"Cool, " Spongebob grinned, "I've never sat over here. It's pretty rad."
"It gets kind of repetitive after a while, " I shrugged, "Carrot Stick?"
I held up a bag of carrot sticks. He grabbed them and opened them quicker than a toddler with a toy.
"Thanks, " he said as he started to obnoxiously chew.
He was so cute and oblivious. Too bad, he was never around for me.
"Julie should be here soon, " I sighed.
"Oh, cool, " He nodded, "So do you want me to leave?"
"Oh no, " I responded, "I just assumed that you wanted to see her. We all know you have a crush on her."
"That was in eighth grade, " Spongebob chuckled, "I got over her the night of the Sleepover."
Ah, the infamous sleepover. I hear about it from all of my friends, unfortunately, I hadn't moved into town yet. So, I couldn't experience the fun.
"Oh, cool, " I said nonchalantly trying to hide my inner excitement, "So who do you like now?"
"I don't want to say cause I don't know if she likes me back, " he sighed.
"Oh, " I sighed, "Well what's she like?"
"She's really pretty, " Spongebob started, "I see her every day and I talk to her every day too. She's sweet with a little attitude and really funny, but she'll never like me 'cause I'm not popular."
"Well, then she's missing out then, " I stated, "Status means nothing over personality. I'd choose you over a popular guy any day."
"Really, " Spongebob smirked.
"Without a doubt, " I nodded.
Of course, he liked someone else. Why would I ever be shocked? He was probably thinking about asking her to go to the dance with him as we spoke.
"So are you going to ask her to the dance, " I asked him as I played with my pudding cup.
"I wasn't at first, " he admitted, "But you just made me feel more confident about it."
"Oh, cool, " I faked a smile.
Nice work, Y/n, now he's surely not gonna say yes if you asked him to the dance. We sat in silence for a while.
"Hey, Y/n, " Spongebob broke the silence, "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure, " I replied, "What's up?"
"Do you have a date to the school dance, " Spongebob asked, "And if you don't, would you be my date to the school dance?"
I dropped my spoon and squealed causing everyone to look over in our direction.
"I'd love to go to the dance with you, Spongebob, " I exclaimed.
"Really, " he smiled.
"Yes, really, " I replied as I kissed him on the cheek.
He placed his hand on his cheek and stared at me.
"Whoa, " he smirked, "Hey, do you wanna see a picture of me when I was in a coma?"
"Sure, " I chuckled.
He quickly reached into his back pocket and pulled out his wallet. Opening to show me a picture of him with bandages on his head.
"It was awesome, " he smiled.
