The bike ride was a pretty distant one- but I made it. My best friend, Melissa, had invited me to a party her older brother had thrown- she always got invited to them and wanted me to attend, but parties weren't my thing. Tonight, however, was different. My parents had gone on a date night and left me completely alone. I hated being alone, so I figured I should go somewhere that was more packed.
As I pulled into the driveway, I parked my bike next to the other bike. I paused momentarily, I didn't know why, but I swore I had seen that bike before. I couldn't put my finger on who it belonged to, though. Oh well, who cared? I walked up to her door and knocked.
"Who is it," Her voice yelled through the door.
"The party pooper that has finally given in to your partying ways," I said dramatically.
The door swung open immediately.
"Oh, my God! You came," Melissa squealed, "Hey guys! Guess who finally came to join the dark side?"
Melissa pointed at me. I felt so embarrassed as everyone looked in my direction. My embarrassment died down when everyone yelled out for me.
"Hey!"
"Yeahhhh!! "
"Yo, what's up, Y/n!"
I gave everyone a shy wave as I entered the house. I couldn't say I was surprised. Melissa and I weren't unknown, not with her brother being the quarterback and the two of us usually being the school 'It' girls, well she was. I was just her best friend.
The house was packed with people; the whole school was almost here. Melissa guided me through the crowd. There were multiple familiar faces, but I only wanted to see one. There he was by the punch bowl by himself. His long curly hair made him stand out from the rest. I had some classes with him but was always too afraid to speak to him. One, because he was super cute, I was scared I'd freak him out and embarrass myself, and two, Melissa.
I loved Melissa, but she was a heathen- a bully. Everything had to go her way, and if you didn't fit the criteria, you were exiled.
My eyes locked with his as I passed by. Butterflies began to flutter in my stomach as he looked at me, and maybe I imagined it, but when he looked at me, I thought I saw him smile.
"How many people are here," I asked.
"I have no clue, but who cares," she laughed, "You made it just on time- we were just about to play truth or dare. You have to play!"
I nodded as I sat on the carpet with at least 15 people in a circle. I knew this was going to be interesting. We were at least five rounds in when it was my turn again.
"Y/n, truth or dare," Melissa asked.
"Uh, truth," I stuttered.
"Out of all the guys in the school, who do you think is the cutest," Melissa questioned.
"Ohh," the room roared in excitement.
"I always thought Adam Sheppard was cute," I admitted.
"Adam Sheppard, you mean that Adam," she said as she pointed to the long-haired boy.
All attention had been turned to him as the room grew silent. Adam stood there speechless.
"You've got to be kidding me," she chuckled, "Why would you like him? He's a freak who never cuts his hair."
