My eyes watered as the man before me shone a bright light in my eyes; he gazed into eye sockets with such fascination, but the experience was scary. I'd never had an eye exam before. Hell, I'd never been to a doctor. My parents said prayer was the best medicine. That's why they prayed for me every day. The only thing that kept me calm was the knowledge that Jimmy and Miss Elsa were beside him, watching as he came up with his conclusion.

"I've never seen something like this before," the doctor proclaimed.

"She's amazing, isn't she," Jimmy endorsed.

I smiled at Jimmy's compliments. He was always so sweet, even though I had just met him. Jimmy had been kinder than most men I'd met, such as the man who dropped me off here. The doctor nodded as he turned to the both of them.

"That's an understatement. She's remarkable. She's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen," the doctor explained.

"Well, doctor- look, but don't touch," Jimmy asserted.

Jimmy glared at the man like he wanted to hit him.

"Jimmy, how about you sit by Y/n while I talk to the doctor outside? Try to calm down while you're at it," Miss Elsa instructed.

Miss Elsa and the doctor exited the trailer as Jimmy sat by me on his bed.

"Are you okay, Jimmy? You seem a little riled up," I explained.

"Yeah, I'm just cautious. Guys would love to get their hands on you- because your eyes are unique. They could try and take you to a different show. You just got here," he said.

He laughed nervously before turning away from me.

"Well, Jimmy. Can I ask you a question," I asked.

"Yeah, Doll," Jimmy responded.

"What do my eyes look like," I questioned.

He turned back to me and smiled.

"They're beautiful, Y/n. When you came up to me, you were like a lost kitten. Ironically, your eyes were the same," he explained.

Jimmy grabbed my hand and guided me over to the mirror he had hanging on the wall. I felt like a baby when they saw themselves for the first time, or like Jimmy said- a cat. My pupils were stretched. Every other person I'd ever met had pupils that were rounded. My mouth gaped open as I took in the sight I'd never seen before. The shock had taken over my body, but I couldn't react. I was more so focused on the reaction of the man behind me.

Jimmy stood behind me and watched me glare into the glass. He must've forgotten that his reflection was visible also. His smile was as unbreakable as he peered at me. No one had ever looked like that after seeing me before. My tummy felt bubbly as I stared at the man through the glass.

"Jimmy," I said.

"Yes, Doll," He responded.

"Why are you looking at me like that," I asked.

"When something astonishes you, you can't help but admire it. I've learned that from being in Freakshow for so long. Not everyone comes to make fun of you- some people come to adore you," he answered.

My face grew warm as I looked down at my shoes, avoiding looking through the glass so he wouldn't see how honored he made me feel. His compliments were always so exhilarating to hear. My heart skipped a beat as he grabbed my chin and pulled me to look at him.

"Your parents might've kept you in the dark, but I'm going make sure you're always in the spotlight," he assured.

The door to his trailer opening frightened us as he released me. Miss Elsa walked back into the trailer, chuckling as she looked at us.

"I see you two are getting quite comfortable in here. While I love that everyone is getting along, Jimmy, I need you comfortable at the ticket booth. I'll help get Y/n to get settled in from here," she mocked.

"You got it, Miss Elsa," he responded.

Jimmy shot me a wink before he headed out to the door.

"Y/n, while I am excited to have you in the show. Please promise me that you won't get pregnant at the beginning of your career," Miss Elsa said.

"Pregnant? I don't think the stork will bring me a baby anytime soon. I'm not even married," I giggled.

"Wow, you truly were sheltered. Just promise me that you'll make Jimmy won't sleep in the bed with you until you get your trailer," she insisted.
