An adorable little girl had been staring at me since she acknowledged my existence. She was so precious. Her brother was charming as well. He was rambunctious as he continued to bang the cutlery together, ignoring his father when he asked him to stop. I've always admired children.
"Those two kids at your table are so cute, " I said to my coworker, "She is precious, and he is so adorable. Hey, Sarah, don't you wish you had a kid sometimes?"
My coworker slowly turned to look at me with a disgusted look.
"Hell no, " she spat, "I hate kids- they're so rowdy and loud- they never sit on their asses when you tell them to."
"Ah, " I laughed at her, "That's where you're wrong; they listen to you if you have the magic touch- kids love people who love them and treat the world like it's a great magical adventure or a fairytale."
"Do I look like Fairy Godmother, " Sarah chuckled, "Do you want that table because you can have it if you want?"
Sarah said as she took off her waitress apron and set it down.
"I'm taking my lunch break right now- since I hate children, you're free to awe at them from up close, " She smiled, "Oh, and heads up, the actual cute thing is their father. Go ahead and go play Mother Goose because that is not my job."
I shook my head and laughed as Sarah said that about every man who walked through those restaurant doors, and they are always mediocre or complete assholes. I had no high expectations for this one as I took out my notepad and pen and walked toward the family of three.
"Thomas, " the man chuckled at his son, "Put the spoons down."
The little boy stared at his father as he continued clashing the cutlery. I couldn't help but giggle as the little rascal and his father turned around to meet my eyes. A smirk appeared on his face as he looked at me. For the first time, Sarah was right. He was astonishing. His big sad-looking eyes made my heart flutter as I met his gaze.
"Oh, hello darling, " He said, "Is my little Thomas causing too much ruckus? I'll try to quiet him down."
His accent made me want to melt. I had heard many northern accents since I had moved here, but none like his. It was very welcoming.
"Oh, no, he's fine, " I insisted, "He's quite enthusiastic. I'm Y/n, your new waitress. I will take care of your table for the remainder of the night."
"Oh, well, nice to meet you, Y/n," he smiled, "I'm Kit. Kit Walker."
Silence filled the air as we fell into a trance staring at each other; this man was stunning. The way stared at me could only hope he thought the same about me. Our chemistry was evident, but I had to remind myself that I wasn't there to fall head over heels but to work.
"Oh, this is Thomas," he snapped back, "And this is Julia."
"Hello Thomas," I greeted, "And Hello Julia. How are you today?"
Thomas continued to slam the cutlery on the table as he smiled and looked at me. Julia, however, just stared at me with her pearly eyes; her mother must've looked astonishing. She was lucky to have such a beautiful family come home to her, but I didn't see a ring on his finger. My feelings were slightly hurt. Children usually loved me, but Julia was not phased by me at all. She just stared...almost like she was studying me.
"Please don't feel bad," Kit explained, "Julia is like that with everyone, it takes a lot to impress her."
"I would expect nothing less from a girl as adorable as she is," I said to him.
"Thank you," her little voice said.
Her father's eyes grew wide.
"May I get some more breadsticks, please," she asked.
