He was a great scholar and *shatAvadani*.

shatAvadhAni means One having the capacity of remembering or attending to a hundred things simultaneously.

“Avadhana” means perfect concentration and uninterrupted contemplation on a particular subject, viz., literature, mythology, music, dance, painting, poetry, Dharmik discussions. The ‘art of Avadhana’ includes accomplishing many a challenging intellectual feat simultaneously with great confidence. ‘Avadhana’ not only thoroughly entertains but also thrills the audience. One who does is termed as “Avadhani”. It requires immense memory power and tests a person’s capability of performing multiple tasks simultaneously. All the tasks are memory intensive and demand an in depth knowledge of literature. No external memory aids are allowed while performing these tasks except the person’s own brain, not even so much as a writing utensil. Avadhani first listens to all the questions and answers all one by one. The group of people who asks the questions are termed as Pruchakaas. And the first person to ask the question is called as Pradhana Pruchaka. There are different types of avadhanees, viz., Astavadhani (8 astavadhana), shatavadhaani (100 astavadhana), sahasravadhani (1000 astavadhana), etc. There are other forms of Avadhanams such as Chitravadhanam for painting, Nrutyavadhanam for Dancing, Ganitavadhanam for Mathematics.

shri srInAtha tIrtharu had toured the entire country for tIrtha kshetra yatre and madhwa tattva sthApane. When he had been to Kashi kshetra, there he did a famous digvijaya against all the best scholars of the time and established Dwaitha Siddhantha. The Vidvanmandali at Kashi honoured him for his exemplary panditya and gave him a Gante for the pallakki, which is being used even today in Vyasaraja maTa for the pallakki’s simha lalata. It was at this very moment that the king of kashi declared that this madhwa institution (Sri pUrvAdi maTa Vyasaraja Mahasamsthanam) is truly the abode of knowledge (Vidya) and *honored srigalu with title of 'Vidya' engraved in silver block*. But Srigalu politely instructed the king that HH name can't be changed as it was blessed by his guru. And mentioned that *the successors of Vyasaraja Mahasamsthanam would be blessed with the prefix 'Vidya' to their names during ashrama sweekara. All yatigaLu of the paramapare bear the title VIDYA post his time starting with his shishyaru, shri vidyAnAtha tIrtharu, to present pITAdhipathi, shri vidyAsrIsha tIrtharu.*
