Valentine's Day!

{at this point in time, Leorio and Kurapika have been dating for a while, and are moved in together in an apartment :) NOT SMUT} Leorio POV.

"This is the perfect prank." I congratulated myself, setting the note and flower on the coffee table. On it was written a sappy love note that told him there was a surprise waiting in the bedroom. Flower petals littered the floor leading to the bed, where I would be disguised as a giant teddy bear.

After I scared him, we would share a bottle of wine and eat the expensive cheese platter. Romantic music, soft lighting, and a lovey-dovey movie. I had everything prepared for the best Valentine's Day ever.

I checked my watch. It was almost time. So I hurried to the bedroom and wiggled into the giant teddy bear. I stayed completely still, and listened to the house.

The front door rattled, Kurapika was finally home. He entered, then closed the door. I could hear him take off his shoes and walk to the coffee table. There was a long pause when he read the note, then his footsteps padded softly down the hall.

The door opened, and I could see him standing in the doorway, leaning against the frame. He was holding the note and the rose to his chest.

When he saw me- the giant teddy bear- he promptly burst into tears. Any excitement I had for the prank shattered into confusion and concern. He shed his suit coat and wandered to the bed where he crawled into my arms and sobbed into my chest.

I wrapped my arms around him and he screamed.

"It's me! It's just me!" I yelled, pulling the head up to reveal my face.

He immediately scrambled off of me, and wiped his face. "Gah, sorry Leorio. I didn't mean to uh..." he sniffed back tears.

I grabbed him by the face and pulled him against my chest. He protested at first, then slowly melted into my embrace. He let his cries slip out and fill the silence.

I waited, rubbing his back softly with the giant bear hand. He cried for a long time, and I could feel his tears soak through the costume.

Eventually he ran out of tears. We stayed quiet and just listened to one another breathe.

I kissed the top of his head. "Do you want to talk about it?"

"I don't know if I can without crying." He laughed. "You make me feel so loved, Leorio." His voice shook, and my heart trembled. "I don't think I have ever felt anything like this before."

I hugged him tighter- if such a thing was possible. "It's because I love you, Kurapika. I want you to understand how much you matter to me. I'm so sorry you've never felt this way before." I kissed the top of his head again. "You deserve to feel loved, sunshine."

He sat up and rubbed his eye. "Sorry for ruining your plans by... crying all over your bear costume."

"Oh this?" I waved it off. "Nah, don't worry about it. I was going to throw it away after I scared you anyway."

He snickered. "Are you wearing anything underneath it?"

I smirked at him. "Do you want to find out?"

"You're a shameless man." He laughed.

"It's Valentine's Day. Let me have a little fun!"

"My first Valentine's with a partner." Kurapika smiled. His eyes were puffy and red from crying.

I kissed him gently. "I got us some wine, cheese, chocolate, and a chick flick!"

He kissed me again. "That sounds perfect."

Okay this is kinda short and stupid but i was going through my short stories and this is the only one that isn't littered with angst and ✨mental illness ✨ so I thought it would be a good starting place. If anyone has prompts/headcanons for short stories or one shots, go ahead and let me know! I will do my best to write them into reality lol
