Trigger warning: implied self harm, plus slight blood in second part. {college au, beginning of relationship}

Leorio carefully shaved away the dark hairs on his chin, and made sure his cheeks were clean as well. He trimmed his sideburns down, making the line sharp. Then he rinsed off and smiled triumphantly in the mirror.

Kurapika walked in just then, and stood beside him. "Well, look at you, Mr. Leorio." He teased.

Leorio rolled his eyes but he secretly liked it.

"You're so handsome, you know that?" Kurapika asked, smiling up at him.

Leorio smiled. "Thanks, sunshine."

Kurapika stood on his tip toes and placed a kiss on his jawline, pressing his lips gently on the faded scar that marked Leorio's face. It's a strange indent, a single line about an inch long.

"I think the scar makes you look manly and tough." Kurapika said.

"Are you sure?" Leorio studied his reflection. "I don't really like it. It messes up my beautiful face."

Kurapika considered this. "I think your face is beautiful with the scar, too. It tells a story of your adventure, and that you've healed and grown since then."

The taller man smiled, and wrapped his arms around the younger. "I like that. You always know just what to say."

Kurapika reached for a mug on one of the higher shelves, refusing help from his boyfriend who was elbow deep in soapy water. When he stretched upward, his sleeve fell down to reveal his wrist. Leorio slowed to a stop, face slack with shock.

Kurapika immediately set both heels on the ground and pulled his sleeve back down to his knuckles. He knew that Leorio had seen his scars.

They just stood there in silence. Kurapika refused to look over at the other man, but he was nervous. He felt like he would be chastised or even punished. His throat got tight and tears stung his eyes.

Leorio blinked. "Those are recent?"

Kurapika bit his lip and gave a small nod. He was scared of Leorio's reaction. Last time someone had found out, he'd been yelled at and even threatened. It scared him to even think about.

Leorio took a deep breath and pulled his hands out of the sink. He dried them off, then pulled his small boyfriend into a hug. Kurapika began to cry.

Leorio hushed him, stroking his hair. "What's wrong, honey? Why are you crying?"

Kurapika fought back his tears. "I don't- I don't know. I thought you would be angry."

"Oh no, no, you're not in trouble. I'm not angry." Leorio reassured him. "I'm just... I'm sad. I wish you hadn't done that to yourself darlin."

"I'm sorry." Kurapika cried.

"I forgive you." Leorio kissed his head. "But please- please don't make any more, okay? If you ever feel it, you come get me right away, you got that? It doesn't matter where I am or what I'm doing I will be there for you."

Kurapika nodded but didn't dare say a word, for fear he wouldn't be able to control his tears.

Leorio cupped his face gently in his hands. "Now, no more crying, okay? You're not in trouble."

Kurapika nodded and sniffed, his lip still trembling.

"Is it okay if I check? I want to make sure it doesn't get infected." Leorio said gently. "I won't touch it if it's too sensitive. And- and I won't ask too many questions, okay?"

"Okay." Kurapika agreed in a small voice.

Leorio sat him down on the kitchen table, then quickly left to get his medical kit from his bedroom. He returned to the kitchen and set the box next to Kurapika, then slowly pulled up his sleeve. The little blond man on the table refused to look.

"Okay. It doesn't look infected, which is good. But it's recent enough that there's still a risk." Leorio informed. He pulled out some cleaning supplies from his kit. "This might sting a little."

Kurapika winced when Leorio touched the alcohol wipe against his wrist. Leorio wiped it clean, then gently spread a healing ointment across the ruined skin. It had begun to bleed slightly, so Leorio placed gauze on top and secured it in place with a bandage.

"Okay. In a few hours I'll change the bandage so it'll stay clean. But for now," he kissed Kurapika's forehead. "Let's get going on our homework, okay?"

Kurapika agreed, then hopped off the table. He gave Leorio a big hug and thanked him a hundred times. He was so relieved.

Leorio leaned down and gave him a brief kiss. "Of course, sunshine. I'll do anything for you. I swear it."
