{Hi guys this is a long chapter but it's gonna be the last one for a while? My dog (me, my brother, and dad's dog) just killed my moms cat, so we are trying to figure out what to do. It did NOT help the already difficult and bitter divorce. I really don't know what to do and I feel super shitty rn, still going through shock ANYWAY LEOPIKA TO HEAL MY SOUL}
Leorio pedaled his bike faster, frantically blinking away his tears so he could see the road. He didn't know where he was going, he just had to leave.
His dad had found his books. The biology textbooks that he'd checked out from the library so he could teach himself how to become a doctor. His dad was furious.
"You're supposed to be a fisherman like Papá and tios. It's a family business! Every generation of the Paladiknights has been a fisherman, and every single one has had a turn commanding the Casa Del Paladin."
Casa del paladin was a fancy way to say really old and stinky boat that had tons of barnacles. It was older than Leorio's Abuelo.
He hated that old boat, and he hated fishing, and he hated his dad.
His tires dug into the sand, and Leorio came to a halt. He'd reached the beach across town. The ocean slapped noisily against some rocks off to the west side, and ocean stretched out as far as he could see.
Leorio ditched his bike in a bush, then picked a rock to sit on and sulk.
"Stupid stinky boat and stupid ocean. Stupid abuelo and his dumb fisherman traditions! Stupid Papá for making me do the same!" He was yelling now. "I want to be a doctor! I want to save people's lives and take care of the sick. Not catch slimy fish and get myself seasick!"
He continued to yell, throwing in the occasional obscenity about his dad. The sun was beginning to set, and he had tears all over his face.
"I wish I could run away." Leorio sat on the rock and pulled his knees to his chest. He listened to the waves for a moment.
"Oh, good, you're done." A voice said off to his right.
He spun to locate the perpetrator, but saw no one. "Hello?"
A head popped up from behind some rocks with a bored expression. "Hi. Sorry I didn't stop you before I heard everything. I didn't want to interrupt something potentially life changing."
The person had light yellow hair, and big blue eyes. Leorio couldn't see enough to determine if it was a boy or a girl.
"Who are you?"
"I'm Kurapika. I'm uh... not from around here."
"Oh. Do your parents know you're here?"
Kurapika looked around for a second. "No. It's better if they didn't find out. You see, I ran away not too long ago."
"Me too!" Leorio crawled closer. "I ran away fr-"
"Don't come over here." Kurapika said suddenly. He looked embarrassed and scared.
"Why not? Are you naked?" Leorio recoiled in distaste.
"Uh, yes. I am naked." Kurapika cleared his throat. "I don't want you to see me like this, it's... immodest."
Leorio took off his shirt and tossed it to the blond mystery across the rocks. "Here, this should fit you. Where are you from?"
Kurapika paused with the shirt in his hands. "Not around here."
"So you've said." Leorio mused, watching a flock of seagulls. "Hey, if you don't mind me askin, are you a boy or a girl?"
"Me?"
