{Hi I just wanted Leorio and Kurapika as dads and a little domestic life with them. I keep almost reading this one fic that has like 55k reads but the way the author portrays their relationship is toxic as hell and I hate it. ANYWAY SOFT DOMESTIC DADS}
Leorio walked into his home, absolutely exhausted from his job. He wanted nothing more than to sit in the bathtub and cry. But what he saw in the living room lifted his spirits and made his smile because he was so helplessly in love.
Kurapika- his darling husband- asleep on the couch, with baby Eloise tucked in his arms. His blonde hair was pulled up into a high ponytail, and he was wearing a red tank top. Eloise was comfortably nestled against him, holding one of his fingers. She was wrapped in the navy blue Kurtan blanket that Kurapika had made when she was born.
Leorio was moved to tears. His heart was just so incredibly full. He leaned down to kiss them both on the forehead, then moved to loosen Kurapika's ponytail.
Kurapika stirred. "Leorio?"
"Shh, it's okay. I'm taking your hair down so it won't hurt." He kissed the blond on his temple.
Kurapika hummed, then adjusted his position. "Lay by me, darling."
Leorio smiled. "Let me change first."
"Don't be too long." Kurapika whispered as he left down the hall to their room.
Once he was in comfy clothes and fuzzy socks, he joined his husband and child on the couch for an afternoon nap. They woke up half an hour later to Eloise crying. Then it was all back to business.
While Kurapika bounced her gently while wandering around the living room, Leorio retrieved a bottle and made her formula milk. The husbands switched with a kiss, and Kurapika started to prepare dinner. Leorio fed little Eloise, but couldn't do anything else because he was so transfixed with how beautiful she was.
"By god, I think I'm the luckiest man alive." Leorio murmured.
"Wrong!" Kurapika called from the stove. "That would be me. The luckiest man in the world."
As soon as Eloise was done eating, the two of them switched again. Kurapika now burping the baby, and Leorio setting the table and getting her rocker ready so they could lay her there while they ate.
It was a peaceful dinner. Eloise was even opening her eyes and watching her dads. They of course turned the lights down so it wouldn't hurt her eyes. Her dads just stared contentedly right back at her, smiling softly and exchanging fond looks.
Of course, not every day can be this cozy and picturesque. Take the next day, for example.
Eloise woke up crying during the wee hours of the night, and neither of her sleep deprived parents could figure out why. They tried everything; she wasn't hungry, her diaper was still clean, she wasn't too warm or too cold, she wasn't holding too still, she wasn't in a bad position, she wasn't even lonely! So why why Eloise?
"It's okay, maybe she just needs to cry it out." Leorio put his hand on Kurapika's head. "I'll take care of her, you go back to sleep."
"Are you sure? I don't mind staying up." Kurapika said around a yawn.
"It's ok, I can handle it." Leorio kissed him once more, then took Eloise to the other room. "Please be quiet, dear, the neighbors are trying to sleep."
Eloise continued to wail at the top of her lungs.
Leorio sighed. "I still don't regret adopting you."
Eloise was on the tail end of screaming, so her lungs were empty and her face was red. She wasn't breathing back in, and soon passed out from lack of oxygen.
That's normal for babies to do, don't freak out don't freak out don't-
She breathed in, and her crying was less intense than it had been.
"You worry me sometimes." Leorio wiped drool off her chin. "Because although I'm good with kids, you're a baby. And I'm only ever good with kids in short increments, I've never been a full time parent before. Well, I mean, I had two sisters while growing up, but that's different."
Eloise's crying was calming significantly. She was quieter than before, and her bouts of wailing were less frequent.
Leorio grabbed a clean dish cloth from the kitchen and wiped her tears away. He hushed her, and bounced slightly while she continued crying.
He began to sing her a lullaby. Something soft and lovely. He couldn't remember all the words, but he remembered the tune. He sang until she quieted down all the way. Then she fell asleep again, exhausted by her fit.
Leorio sighed. "Finally."
He returned to their bedroom, laying Eloise between him and his husband. He fell into a shallow sleep, waking up at the slightest shift. Whenever Eloise took a deep breath or Kurapika turned in his sleep; his eyes would fly open and he would wait for any further disruptions. It was a very unsatisfying night of rest.
The morning wasn't much better. Kurapika was spending his day teaching at the local library, and Leorio was home alone with the baby. He kept dozing off when things got too quiet. But the baby kept him awake by force. It was like she could tell when he wasn't paying full attention to her.
"You must be a witch or something." Leorio shook his head as she started to call out right as he took out his phone. "What do you want Eloise?" He growled, making her giggle. "You like it when Papá growls?"
He growled again, making her laugh more. He tickled her, and she was squealing in delight. While the baby caught her breath, Leorio just stared fondly at her. She was so beautiful.
So Leorio did the only logical thing, and sent a picture to his husband. Kurapika's phone dinged in his pocket, but he ignored it in favor of showing the next slide of his presentation. He was teaching the people of York New about the Kurta clan. It felt good to spread knowledge and awareness of a clan that time long forgot.
After his lesson, Kurapika did some grocery shopping and got the mail. By the time he got home, Leorio was at the stove, making a new batch of his favorite soup. Little Eloise was asleep in her rocker.
Kurapika unloaded the groceries, opened the mail, and gave his husband's bum a little pinch when he walked past. They chatted a bit while Kurapika sorted what mail was important and what would go into the shredding pile. They peacefully ate dinner, surprised that Eloise slept through all of it.
Leorio and Kurapika enjoyed a glass of wine together, cuddled up on the couch next to the rocker. The TV played quietly, Eloise snored softly, and the curtains were closed on the little family.
Leorio and Kurapika shared a long and romantic kiss, then decided it was time for bed. Kurapika changed Eloise's diaper one more time, then they all went to the bedroom for a much needed rest.
Eloise was in her crib tonight, so her dads had the bed all to themselves. They of course took the opportunity for some quiet touching and kissing. Nothing too heated, lest they wake the baby.
Someday they would ask Mito to babysit her so they could have a real night all to themselves.
